Broadcast Facilities

That’s true.
Some of the NBL content and maybe a few other shows came from Ulimo. But mainly news.

ATV10 (Como) produced GMA, The Morning News, The Panel and Hinch etc. Offsite stuff was still coming from ATVs old studios (then owned by global).

The panel came later I think. Not the early 90s

And then it was Global Productions(?) that took over the North Ryde studios until it was replaced with apartments around 2007?

After Ten vacated, it was Hoyts Television Studios for a few years then became Global Television. Demolished in September 2007 (I remember seeing what was the studios in a pile of rubble) and was vacant for close to a decade.

The panel was In the very late 90s early 2000s I remember WIN Television Mildura used to screen the Panel on Friday nights before going into the Simpsons or a movie before going back into network programming.

From memory, the old Broadcom facility was originally a wool storage warehouse.

Decades of absorbed lanolin had rendered the building uninsurable, prompting then owners Canwest to move to the purpose built facility in Pyrmont.

So Pyrmont was designed to be Television facility?

10 have never owned it have they?

TEN moved from North Ryde to the Broadcom building in Ultimo after they were in receivership. Broadcom was a production company that made programs for TEN and were one of the main creditors - which is why they took over the running of the channel.
Broadcom was in an old Woolshed that was converted into offices and had two studios. a production studio for good morning Australia, sport shows and other programs, and a small studio for news. TEN moved to Pyrmont in 1994 after their Canadian owner Canwest bought TEN and invested a lot of money in new equipment and infrastructure. They don’t own the building - they lease it.

Yes, I remember driving past it as it was being built. The had a sign out the front regarding 10 coming soon. So the new building had the atrium for news and a production studio. I remember when they moved in GMA did a special edition from Sydney with Bert. He did a live tour of the studio and we got to see lots of elements of it.

Fun fact, most of the advertorials for GMA weee filmed in Sydney and not Como Melbourne where the show was broadcast from.

I thought TEN10 moved into the facility in 1997?

Yes it was 1997.

Right, so even though Canwest took over ownership in 1994 they were still broadcasting from Ultimo until 1997. Makes sense.

sorry yes it was 1997 - that’s right
April 1997 from memory the move to Pyrmont was
Canwest took over before 1997 (it was a couple of years before) and they decided to move premises from Broadcom as they really were not fit for purpose for a broadcaster. in the early 90s TEN had facilities in Rozelle (set storage), the sport department was a block away from the Broadcom building and other offices were also offsite. so the move to Pyrmont consolidated everything.
The Broadcom building was at the corner of Bay Street and Kelly street Ultimo (right on the corner) opposite the Glebe Hotel

Is this it?

yes that’s the building
the main front entrance was on Kelly street
There are a couple of shots of the front of the building in a goof tape that’s now on YouTube as “channel ten goof tape 1991”. you can see the “B” being removed from the signage which was Broadcom before they put up Ten signage (which you don’t see in the clip)
another goof tape uploaded to YouTube titled “1994 Ten 10 Sydney Xmas tape” shows lots of interiors of the offices and edit suites and news exchange/tapes areas.
not much of the studios themselves though.

Well that’s answered the question if it was still around or if it had been demolished.
