Broadcast Facilities

I thought Footy Classified, Sunday Footy Show and Wide Works of Sports all came from the same set? Are you sure you’re not getting confused with old set elements used from previous years.

We would just be talking about the studios and support buildings rather than the main TVQ, QTQ and ABQ towers. The BTQ tower could come down.

The new Screen Queensland studios at Hemmant might be one possibility or somewhere adjacent for studio space.

There is also the International Broadcast Centre for the 2032 Olympic at Montague Road in West End - perhaps as part of that, or after the Olympics.

Though, I suppose they could really be almost anywhere and not necessarily together. I imagine Nine would need to reproduce the existing news studio while hopefully it will be all new for Seven.

Talent-Operated Small Space, a basic mini studio with a camera and screen backdrop. Most, if not every metro station has one.

Commonly used for live crosses/interviews and look-live packages. Used to also be used for late night news updates so they didn’t have to use the big set, not sure about now.

Hopefully somewhere not on the greater Brisbane River flood plain.
And in anycase, all three networks would want the move fully paid for including new building space and any current lease required land rehabilitation paid for being they can’t sell their current 99 year leased property. And no doubt they will still want separation from each other, as in, not being in the same building. And on top of that, Seven currently holds its nationwide archives up at BTQ (some 20+ shipping containers worth) that would require a large space to be moved to as there is still many film and videotapes to be digitized still.
Will be a shame to see those buildings go as they are more or less the only still existing station buildings in Australia (bar some regionals) from when they were established in the 1950s/60s.
As to the transmission towers, possibly the BCC would want one of the 3 still functional towers to come down, possibly the QTQ tower being the TVQ tower is much taller. The ABQ tower will most likely stay and be the alternate site for all networks? Who knows.

Seven could still keep their archive digitising project. Just go and lease a separate building like a warehouse in Browns Plains. It’s not a core broadcast asset.

Nine would ideally want something where Nine, Brisbane Times and 4BC can share.

But yes Nine, Seven and Ten in the same building wouldn’t work unless on an emergency/short term consideration.

Those old Mt Coot-tha studios from the road look like they could just fall down if you waited long enough - it would have to be worth some money to the Council to buyout their titles/leases and demolish and remediate the sites - greenies would love it. At least 2 of the towers would have to stay though.

Bet the journo’s and camo’s wish they had an office in George St where they could walk to the courts and Parliament House from too? A news studio could just be in an industrial unit or converted warehouse if it actually came to it. TEN don’t even have that to worry about.

Why not? They could be in the same skyscraper, with 10 not needing the studio space anymore.

Something called competition. Nine: “Quick where is Seven going in the car park? Follow it!!”

Ironically Seven and Ten used to be in the same building on the Gold Coast.

Nine and NBN were (and still are) in the same building on the Gold Coast, even before PBL bought NBN in 2007. But NBNs presence there was only ever really for sales and admin (not news).

Sorry I am reacting to an old post, but this is a example of the space between News and Sport Shows at GTV (not official blueprint, I have recreated it based on when I was on the tour from images/videos:

Before 2017, Sunday Footy Show, News and Footy Classified were in the set currently used for news. When GTV got the current news set, SFS was moved into the right studio, and Footy Classified stayed in the news set in the space next to it. In 2020, FC moved to the current SFS set. Storage for set elements used for one show (desks etc.) are in the space Footy Classified used from 2017-2020. Hope this clears things up for people confused.

So is this right?

No, this is what it looks like with both of the sets included, the previous didn’t have images of sets:

I reckon that they can move the storage pieces into the SFS set if ACA relocates to Melbourne, with ACA using the current storage area next to the News set.

Could ACA not use the Sport or News set (with a different desk?)?

All talk about ACA moving to Melbourne has only come from here. I don’t think Nine have intention on moving it. Not to mention all names rumoured for the role are in Sydney.

Oh 100% I don’t think there’s any point in moving it.

They could use the sport set, but it wouldn’t be consistent with TCN, especially if weekdays are out of GTV/weekends at TCN or vice versa. I don’t think they could use the News set due to Nine News Melbourne using it right before.

Maybe most of them are in Sydney, but Lisa Millar, Sarah Abo and Carrie Bickmore are based in Melbourne. It could also be good if a presenter was in the other city for a event so for example Deb Knight could do ACA from Melbourne if she is at an event earlier in the day.

I’m pretty confident in saying Miller, Abo and Bickmore were never in serious contention.

The article says it is most likely to be Sarah Abo or Deb Knight. If Sarah gets the job, I reckon the show could move to Melbourne as apparently Nine is open to move the show to GTV if a Melbourne personality gets the job. However I feel like it is most likely Deb and the show will stay at TCN.

Pre-record the intro of ACA/outro of the news?
