Here’s Freeview listings from RadioTimes magazine for 11/9 and 13/9, not all freeview channels are listed in the magazine, there’s plenty more.

I’ve never seen that before in a TV mag, normally you’d have the 5 (traditional) analogue channels on the first couple of pages, how come Channel 5 gets dumped with the Freeview lot and BBC Four taking its place?

Not sure why, especially as BBC4 isn’t on air during the day, but 5 does seem like an afterthought here generally.

I like they still have the HD advisories on there. We lost them 5-10 years ago, I think Nine/GEM were the last ones to have them in the guides.

While not perfect, I think TV Week here in Australia could do a lot worse than taking some cues from the layout of RadioTimes’ listings.

Do they mean cutting down domentaries to fulfill commercial responsibilities

It is only the Radio Times that does that, which is traditionally seen as the BBC listings magazine although it hasn’t been owned by them for a long time now. Ultimately though it’s readers will be more likely to watch BBC4 than Channel 5.

Worth noting those listings did change as C4 did a last minute deal with Amazon to screen the US Open Womens Final live, paying a reported £1m+ to simulcast their feed ad free for over three hours in primetime and gazumping the BBC who a day earlier had announced they would screen highlights on Sunday afternoon.

Channel 4, given its reach amongst the U.K. youth population, has set out a plan to invest an additional £50 million in content for younger viewers, focused on streamed and social content. Channel 4 also plans to expand as a publisher-broadcaster internationally, helping indies creating new formats with global potential and launching an advertiser-funded international streaming service.

The broadcaster also said it would accelerate its role as a public service catalyst across the U.K., with £5 million of investment to reach 15,000 young people annually with training and development initiatives from 2022.

UPDATE 16/9:

…John Whittingdale, Minister of State for Media and Data.

Whittingdale delivered Downden’s speech, laying out the government’s reasons for wanting to privatize Channel 4, but claimed that a decision had yet to be reached regarding a sale.

He also told the RTS (Royal Television Society) audience that the Conservatives will look to introduce requirements for public service broadcasters (PSBs) to produce “distinctively British” content and for all platforms to prominently carry PSB content.

News UK is to launch a new channel, talkTV, in early 2022.

The channel will be streamed live and made widely available on all platforms including linear TV and OTT with content available across social media as well as News UK’s own broad inventory of websites and apps. Everyone in the UK will be able to access the channel, live or on-demand, either on their television or on any personal device.

talkTV will offer a mix of programming from News UK’s stable of household brands. There will be proper hourly news bulletins, sports and entertainment shows as well as current affairs, debate, opinion and documentaries.

New format shows will be introduced using talent from our own brands – talkRADIO, talkSPORT, Virgin Radio, Times Radio, The Sun, The Times and The Sunday Times.

News UK will hire some exceptional new talent to join a schedule of prime time programming for the evenings.

I wonder if this is the new gig Piers Morgan has been teasing recently?

Confirmed

Hopefully it’ll be a shambles like GB News, but News UK will be willing to play the long game.

Interesting to see how it fares with Ofcom too…

Who comes up with these terrible names, talkTV? It’s almost as if there’s a 90 year old man running this business… :smirk:

The article confirms Piers’ show will be available on Sky News in Australia.

It’s because they have talkSPORTS and talkRADIO brands on terrestrial and DAB.
