Really is proof linear TV is far from dead - when you put a quality series on a flagship TV channel first it rates, and usually builds it’s audience nicely.
The BBC is set to reboot Blankety Blanks with Bradley Walsh as host following a successful Christmas special last year. Great host choice given Bradley’s long running success on ITV presenting The Chase and Beat The Chaser. It’ll be a great vehicle for him to display his wicked sense of humour. Time for an Aussie reboot with someone like Lawrence Mooney at the helm.
Interesting that the Brits don’t have an issue with personalities moving between broadcasters. If only our networks displayed this level of maturity and stopped using the same tired old network faces on every frigging show in their schedule.
“Successful” is pushing it. It rated well but was reviewed poorly, but this being the BBC it’ll probably be part of the Christmas Day schedules for the next 15 years now and they’ve not much else to put on Saturday nights.
London’s Daily Telegraph reports that BT has opened talks with Amazon, Disney, DAZN and others to sell a stake in BT Sport. The article says that the telco is keen to retain a stake in the broadcaster, but the sale would include the BT Sport brand, its rights agreements and its high-tech studios at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.
The Guardian published the article below about Noel Clarke. Subsequently Clarke was suspended by BAFTA, and his recent Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema Award was suspended.
In light of the very serious nature of the allegations against Noel Clarke raised by 20 women in the Guardian’s report, ITV has decided it is no longer appropriate to broadcast the final episode of the drama Viewpoint on ITV main channel this evening.
“We are mindful that some of our viewers have already invested four hours of their time over the past four nights in following this thriller which was due to conclude this evening, and they have yet to see the final episode. As such we plan to make it available on ITV Hub tonight for a limited time for any viewers who wish to seek it out, and watch its conclusion.”
ABC had bought the Australian rights but Banijay has now suspended international sales. Whether that applies to broadcasters who’ve already bought it I’m not sure.
Noel Clarke and his business partner Jason Maza had been suspended from their production company by All3Media, which holds a 21% stake. Unstoppable produces Bulletproof for Sky and Viewpoint for ITV.
Clarke has since released a statement denying the allegations, but will be seeking professional help.
… so let’s see if I’ve got this right … based on allegations against a black actor contained in a newspaper article, the final episode of a television series has been dropped and sales suspended which means, if the program is no longer aired, the actors involved won’t be paid any residuals? and will there be charges laid or proven or is this just another example of journalists deciding who’s guilty?
“ITV has a zero tolerance policy to bullying, harassment and victimisation and robust procedures in place to investigate and deal with any complaints. We strongly believe that everyone deserves to work in a supportive and safe environment.
“In light of the very serious nature of the allegations against Noel Clarke raised by 20 women in the Guardian’s report, ITV has decided it is no longer appropriate to broadcast the final episode of the drama Viewpoint on ITV main channel this evening.
Its not just limited to ITV (and Sky) - his membership and recently awarded outstanding contribution award from BAFTA have also been suspended
… it could be a thousand women … until tested and proven they are just allegations … if the world of law rested on just allegations we’d all be up the creek …
… simply stating a fact … is that against the law too?
… didn’t you read the Guardian article? … the journo claims BAFTA knew about this two weeks before the award was handed out and still went ahead … so either they didn’t think it important or they’re hypocrites …
You’ve pointed out something that is completely irrelevent to the story - stop trying to make it something its not.
It also said that it had insufficient evidence to allow it to investigate the veracity of the claims - something that has obviously changed since the award was announced
That doesnt mean that there should not be consequences - one allegation is one too many
… at the risk of repeating myself, the only way that “the veracity of the claims” can be properly assessed is in a court … up until then everything is speculation …
… so according to you, if I go to a newspaper with 19 mates and allege that you are a bigoted clown then it must be true and “there should be consequences”? … in what world do you live?
The BBC has announced the main cast for its 10-part family drama Dodger, inspired by Charles Dickens’s Oliver Twist. It will debut on CBBC in UK later this year. Dodger is produced by NBCUniversal International Studios, and distributed by NBCUniversal Global Distribution, so Stan will probably gain the Australian broadcast rights.
Sanditon airs in Australia on BBC First followed by FTA screening on ABC TV - Season 1 starts next Saturday, May 15 at 8.30pm with all episodes already available on iView.
