Yeah I can imagine a position existing in the lead-up to Sydney, while networks referring to their staff on the ground as ‘Olympic reporters’ is common practice. But I doubt a formalised position exists between games.
Ok i was at Southbank (as a matter of fact i am in one of the screencaps above…)
there was an issue with the actual annoucement on the screen there - they cut back to the IOC late, all we saw was the Brisbane team jumping out of there seats - we heard nothing from Bach - we only knew we won when the compaire advised us
The article you linked to doesn’t make the implication you’re suggesting it does - Thomas Bach floating the idea of a city hosting an Olympic Games doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll ultimately host one. If that was the case, we would already know the host cities for the next few decades.
Don’t get me wrong, Coates’ engaging in decision-making when he has a conflict of interest (and refuses to acknowledge it) is something he has been allowed to ‘get away’ with for too far long. It’s why he should have stepped down from his IOC position if he wanted to help Brisbane win an Olympic Games. However, suggesting that Coates’ involvement is the only reason why Brisbane secured the 2032 Olympics isn’t right.
I’m sorry…44 PAGES OF COVERAGE?!
Jesus, we all knew they were going to win but this is crazy.
Remind me never to buy the Courier Mail if I go to Brisbane.
i’m only going to buy it to see if my pic is in it.
Do they have a Brisbane 2032 olympic logo?
Sydney famously had a Sydney 2000 logo for the bid:
And then the proper Sydney 2000 Olympics logo:
A lot of subsequent cities followed that lead. Haven’t seen anything for Brisbane so far. Or are they just creating a logo for the games themselves?
They’ll be a competition after Paris 2024 to design the official logo and mascots for the Olympics and Paralympics. Interest in Paris 2024 for Australians will be big with an Olympics at home 8 years later.
I don’t think anything is official, but I find the designs from this Reddit link quite nice:

I like those. Is it supposed to be a flower?if so, it doesn’t look like a native one though. Good design but.
A bold claim.
Where did you read this?
If the Coronavirus threat has passed then I don’t see why the Olympics can’t regain its status. If we’re still fearing infections from those participants from other parts of the world then these Games and other international events will struggle.
Was interest in Atlanta 1996 for Australians big with an Olympics at home 4 years later?
Sure was.
We had the segment in the Closing Ceremony with the Big Kangaroos on BMX bikes!!!
A few people have registered business names associated with the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games, including this company. I expect that the AOC will ask to have those registrations that use Olympic removed as they are probably illegal under the Olympic Insignia Protection Act 1987.
I expect an amendment to passed to this bill adding an combo of Brisbane and 2032 to the law as well.
Agreed. Scrolled down and saw this:

Fun Fact - Neither Melbourne, 1956, Sydney or 2000 are mentioned in that act
There was another act that granted protection for Sydney 2000 (SYDNEY 2000 GAMES (INDICIA AND IMAGES) PROTECTION ACT 1996)
either way, i expect this law to be passed quicky.
reading the bid docs it does state that legal protection needs to be passed for various games insignia, logo and wordmarks as par of the host agreement
