Big Brother

Um… just no. Lol.

Well, let’s hope that the nostalgic fans of the show come back and stay.

This show could be exciting and event TV, but sadly it looks like 7 have stuffed it up. I think this will be the nail in 7’s coffin for 2020. Predict it will start with 600-800k then fall under 400k by Wednesday.

seriously, how much is 7 paying you to promote BB here? :stuck_out_tongue:

I think the issue here is expectation vs reality. 7 could not have just brought back the same show. The show that aired on Ten in 2001 would not work in 2020. It ran its course over 8 years and then was cancelled. It was revived and ran for only three seasons. Anyone who says 7 should have just brought back the same show, or that even 10 should, is kidding themselves.

And, to be fair, they did say right from the get go that the game has changed. Anyone who expected the same show clearly didn’t listen. I feel perhaps it needed a sub-name for the show for advertising purposes - either that or a whole new name and no reference to Big Brother at all. They are using the name ‘Big Brother’ as it is a heritage brand and a lot of the work is done for them on that front.

I hope its a success - for no other reason that it is good for Aussies to produce Aussie TV and this creates industry jobs.

The only problem I have with Big Brother is the scheduling. Why aren’t Seven airing The Farmer Wants a Wife now? By the time BB finishes The Bachelor franchise will be airing on 10 (they have 3 seasons of it). They should have aired Farmer first to avoid this.

The only thing I slightly disagree with is that even though they should evolve Big Brother from the old show in 2001, some things such as live shows, evictions, streaming, as well as companion shows should’ve been brought back (and perhaps slightly evolved from the old) to maintain a sense of familiarity for the brand along with the ‘game-changing’ new elements. Too many new elements is likely to turn off fans of the show and doesn’t guarantee new viewers will follow too.

It should’ve been a mix of both old and new rather than just new. Old for familiarity’s sake, new is for innovation into the 21st century.

well unfortunately we can’t do much of the “old” at the moment

The problem is that 10 only has Bachelor in Paradise in the can. Filming of The Bachelor is yet to resume and The Bachelorette cannot start shooting until The Bachelor finishes.

Minimum wage because they are broke

Actually, the reason why they are broke is because they overpaid for Danny and Mitch to advertise Seven left right and centre on this forum and their shows never rated :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

And then Kerry Packer clapped

I do hope the show is somewhat okay as I plan to watch the premiere, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

This is the thing - if Seven had decided to do a ‘real-time’/‘traditional’ Big Brother season, the show probably wouldn’t be able to go ahead full stop at this time due to COVID-19 restrictions.

While I don’t like that the show will be like this, pre-recording it has probably saved their bacon

I’d just like something different on tv so I hope it goes ok too. I’m increasingly watching less FTA (on any network)
A Gogglebox type show commentating on the weeks episodes and antics of the housemates could be fun.

Event TV is live, not filmed 3 months ago and storylines and scripts written during post production.

None of 9’s tentpole reality successes in recent years have been live (except for Voice live shows). MAFS is probably the biggest event TV of recent years… filmed months in advance.

Who says event tv has to be live?

Not to mention MKR at its peak. Lego Masters, Ninja Warrior, Masterchef, Australian Survivor, Bachelor/rette, Masked Singer and The Block is also to some extent ‘event tv’ and they’re pre-recorded (except for maybe The Block finale).

Though those type of shows are probably OK to be pre-recorded. Big Brother relies on the live factor for engagement and interaction.

The Block finale is also recorded the day before. It isn’t live.

It only did because they had the viewers choosing the winners. This season they have changed that so it being live isn’t required.

So we decide the winner, but no one is left inside the house right now?
