ACMA moves to block Emu Casino and Fair Go Casino

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) will today request Australian internet service providers (ISPs) block illegal offshore gambling websites Emu Casino and Fair Go Casino.

The two sites will be the first blocked following ACMA investigations that found they offer online casino-style games which are prohibited under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.

ACMA Chair Nerida O’Loughlin said the investigations were launched following a number of complaints.

“Emu Casino and Fair Go Casino are illegal sites that target Australians, and between the two we have received more than 50 complaints about their conduct,” Ms O’Loughlin stated.

“They’re happy to take your money when you lose, but people have reported to us that they refuse to pay out winnings.

If you have funds deposited with these—or any other an illegal offshore gambling site—you should withdraw those funds now.

ACMA has a range of enforcement and disruption options available to protect Australians against illegal gambling.

“Enforcing Australian laws against offshore companies is challenging. There is no single measure that will be successful in every case,” Ms O’Loughlin said.

“Blocking access to websites sends a strong message that the ACMA can and will take action to stop illegal operators from targeting vulnerable Australians.”

More than 65 illegal companies have pulled out of the Australian market since 2017 when the ACMA started enforcing new illegal offshore gambling rules.

The ACMA publishes a Register of licensed interactive wagering services so that consumers can be sure services are legal in Australia.

Cricket Australia CEO Kevin Roberts said on SEN this morning that the BBL sponsorship offer from an unnamed gambling company didn’t fit with the competition’s family focus.

Channel 7 were encouraging viewers to gamble. Responsibly.

I don’t know what is more pathetic; the fact that SportsBet thinks it’s a good idea for people to be betting right now or that they couldn’t wait to show their Olympic themed ads.

Tonight during MasterChef I saw a Labrokes ad promoting offers for greyhound races tomorrow night. What the hell is it thinking, given MC is a family show?

Probably…

:moneybag: :moneybag: :moneybag:

Although I don’t agree with SportsBet’s practices, of course.

Watching a live replay of the Aus v RSA Test match from 2008 and I forgot there was a brief period where Nine’s commentators used to quote live betting odds from Betfair. Couldn’t do that today.

Because they predictably went way over the top. You reap what you sow.

Gutter tactics by this Woolworths controlled outfit to suck money from poker machine addicts.

From personal experience I know that clubs and pubs don’t care. The warning stickers on the machines are just for show. They want your money going through the machine and will do anything to get it.

Read this…this was after TWO games.

This is what happened TODAY.

How dumb can you be?

They do it for publicity - its not the first time where they’ve paid out early and its come back to bite them

This can’t be good for their long term image. I like some of the Lakers players, but to pay out after two games is irresponsible.

So if the other team wins they will have payed out on both teams ‘winning’. Paying out on a losing bet sounds like an inducement to me, which should be illegal.

Exactly. It can’t be good if you’re a problem gambler.

As mentioned on Sunrise yesterday, Bank Australia is banning its customers from using the bank’s credit cards on gambling transactions from December 1 this year. This move restricts its customers from spending on gambling and gaming transactions including poker machines, online gambling, casinos, government lotteries, horse and dog racing using its credit card products.
