The new BBC logo in motion!
Looks good.
Came here for the BBC title, bitterly disappointed
Not the best image quality, but this was posted to TVLiveForum:
The some icons are a little different to what was seen in the previously mentioned survey:
a bit of a re-fresh for BBC with some minor tweaking of the BBC font and new presentation
It was news back in July but appears to be starting to appear now…
And as you can expect it has attracted some criticism
Hot BBC action. Can’t wait for it to go live.
Earlier reported that the BBC may have to pay up to £1 million in compensation
Matt Wiessler is the graphic designer who mocked up fake bank statements in 1995 at the request of Panorama interviewer Martin Bashir. But he did not know what they would be used for until after the broadcast.
A few developments in regards to the Corporate-wide rebranding of the BBC since it was last discussed, which is to be the most significant since October 4 1997, when the current blocks logo with the Gill Sans typeface debuted.
The discussion from our friends over at TVLiveForum has been rampant in the last few days, as both the new Reith typeface blocks logo and elements of the new branding have been sighted in the wild. Here are a few examples:
An internal video of the new branding was leaked online, though it’s understood that the final designs are different to what is seen here. The video is broken into three tweets:

It is understood that new BBC One idents that were intended to replace ‘Oneness’ have been delayed, so instead the new logo will be applied as a temporary solution.
This is all expected to take place on October 20th. Exciting few days ahead!
Senior Black and Asian UK creatives including Sir Lenny Henry, Afua Hirsch and Pat Younge have written an open letter to BBC Chair Richard Sharp seeking reassurances that “advocating for our industry to be diverse will not block people from being employed by the BBC.”
The open letter was organized by Angela Ferreira, who runs Henry’s indie Douglas Road, in response to allegations over the weekend in UK newspaper The Daily Mail that BBC Director General Tim Davie vetoed the appointment of diversity champion Marcus Ryder to the corporation.
Ryder, who used to work for BBC Scotland and has in recent years been plying his trade for Chinese news agency CGTN, is said to have been invited to apply for the role of executive editor overseeing radio news program Newsbeat and radio station Asian Network.
The job eventually went to an internal candidate and reports have suggested Davie interfered after believing Ryder’s appointment would be controversial given his history as a public diversity champion.
Sally Nugent has been announced as a permanent new BBC Breakfast presenter taking up the role alongside Dan Walker, Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt with immediate effect.
Nick Percy to lead new BBC Studios Global Markets division
Jon Penn steps down in APAC
BBC Studios is to consolidate its APAC and EMEA Distribution regions in to a single, unified business under the leadership of Nick Percy as President, Global Markets from 31 January 2022.
This new division, which will join the Americas and the UK as the third BBC Studios’ regional business and will help to ensure simplified decision-making across territories and between all lines of business, includes content sales, branded services and commercial ancillaries.
The formation of Global Markets concludes a period of internal consolidation, which has seen BBC Studios’ regional businesses come closer together over the last few years, reflecting the rapid transformation in the media industry.
Nick Percy has led the EMEA region since April 2020, having held a number of roles in BBC Studios since 2010, including EVP for EMEA, EVP for Western Europe, VP and GM for Central and Eastern Europe, Director of Business Development & Digital, and Head of Strategy. Prior to this he held a number of strategy roles in government and commercial companies, including McKinsey & Company and Diageo. Nick has experience of the APAC region, having previously lived in Australia and worked on projects in Asia.
Jon Penn, the current EVP of APAC, ruled himself out of applying for the leadership role, but will remain with the company next year to work on central projects, as well as helping with the transition.
Paul Dempsey, President Global Distribution, says: ‘Nick is a strategic and talented leader who understands the complexities of the Global Markets regions and the focus for BBC Studios moving forward. I’m pleased that he is going to be leading the team through the next stage of our transformation.
‘I’m grateful to Jon for his excellent leadership of the APAC region and before that the ANZ region, which saw the launch of BBC First, BBC Earth, Britbox and a production arm in Australia, achieved significant new carriage deals, saw the growth of Bluey into a huge international brand and closed multi-million dollar framework deals in China. Both APAC and EMEA are in great shape to come together as a powerful Global Markets entity.’
Nick Percy says: ‘Having represented both APAC and EMEA in some of our global deals, I understand the value in merging these two regions in to one powerful team with oversight of the whole business. There will be many benefits, as well as trade-offs to be made, over the next few years, as we invest in our branded services, balance our global and regional deals, offer more in direct-to-consumer and ramp up our digital deals. I’m delighted to be working with the six regional SVPs and GMs and their local teams to accelerate our growth.’
Jon Penn says: ‘I’ve loved my time leading the APAC region and before that, setting up and growing the ANZ regional business. I’ve been fortunate to work with such an incredible brand, team and customer base as we have ridden the wave of digital transformation in the content industry. It’s been a part of my career that I’m very proud of, but now I’m ready for my next challenge and can do this in the knowledge that the business and team is in very safe hands.’
Nick and Jon will continue to lead EMEA and APAC until the new Global Markets region comes in to effect on 31 January. Regional commercial leads Phil Hardman (GM & SVP Asia), Natasha Hussain (SVP MENA), Ding Ke (GM Greater China), Fiona Lang (GM ANZ), Salim Mukaddam (SVP Content Sales Markets EMEA) and Arran Tindall (SVP Key Markets EMEA) will report to Nick, who will be based in the UK.
