Streaming has a lot to answer for in this respect.. I recall reading/hearing that ad revenue for network commercial TV across Australia has dropped by HALF in the last 15 years… you can’t hope to cop those sorts of losses and maintain production as it was.

The population viewing wise has gone to streaming - but a large reason for the ad downturn is actually Meta and Google and targeted ads.

And in some respects that may have been a more sustainable outcome - regional television had always been on the precipice financially and some of that comes back to the original adopted model that had quite possibly too many stations for the population (and population spread).

The problem has continually been that we allow the market to write the rules they operate under - so rather than serving communities, they serve self-interest.

That could have been overcome with the right legislation, with little to no input from Nine or Seven or anyoen else.

I guess they are reaping what they sow at this point.

This is a two-way street too - at a time of change, FTA elected to limit its evolution to try and meet the market rather electing to focus on rent seeking and protectionism, to shield owners from declining profits.

And this is why, at times, I have little to no sympathy or the networks we have. They’ve chosen time after time to get as much as they can and to hell with the consequences for anyone else. Sure, they’re legally allowed to, they’re businesses, but am I legally obliged to feel sorry for them. No.

The more you shove Gavin Morris, Married At First Sight, Tipping Point, Masterchef, Waleed Aly, Kyle Sandilands, SAS Australia, whatever SBS thinks is an indigenous program or world movie that clearly isn’t, Farmer Wants A Wife, The Voice, etc., down my throat, I’ll give the same response I get at work whenever I ask someone nicely to do something reasonable - go fuck yourself.

Aussie post-production house Cutting Edge goes into liquidation after 27 years

A public notice states the liquidators were appointed to wind up the company following a meeting on June 27.

Most recently it was sound and picture vendor for season one of Jungle Entertainment’s Good Cop/Bad Cop for The CW in the US and Stan in Australia.

I much prefer game shows to the plethora of ‘reality TV’ shows.

Most of the so called ‘reality shows’ are effectively game shows.
When a group of people are competing against each other for a prize it’s gotta be a game show.
