Australian Ninja Warrior

Yeah Nine definitely won’t get rid of ANW, but I think the ‘war’ between the networks over Ninja and NRL/State of Origin is getting ridiculous - for a network which apparently halved its profits this year, I highly doubt Seven can get Ninja in addition to The Voice. Also considering it has yet to finalise the Cricket agreement, it’s a bit premature to even be thinking about getting the rights to State of Origin.

I think Ninja would be a big loss to nine. To me this is the show all networks would love as it targets a demographic that is hard to get for networks. It is much more valuable than the voice and would be a lot lot cheaper.

Comparing the same ‘logic’ to the voice would be naive. It is not in the same price bracket. The sets get reused every season as do the contestants. It doesn’t require the same audition process, coaches fees, accomodation expenses etc.

To lose this show would be tragic for nine in my opinion.

ANW has a massive crew but no massive coach salaries or housing international guests. It’s free labor (contestants) and network stars (no extra salaries, except if they re-use Freddie). I’d say it would be fairly economical, especially now they’re doing it at the Showgrounds where they do Masterchef and Lego Masters, they re-use a lot of backend stuff.

From today’s upfronts

Australian Ninja Warrior is returning to Nine for an exhilarating fifth season.

In 2020, audiences were captivated as, for the first time ever, they witnessed Ninja versus Ninja on the almighty Power Tower. To top off a very successful season, the daunting Mount Midoriyama was finally conquered by Ben Polson, who was crowned Australia’s first Ninja Warrior and took home an astonishing

$400,000 in prizemoney.

With Mount Midoriyama now defeated, the best Ninjas from all over Australia are more motivated than ever to emulate Ben and claim another title, so get ready for Australian Ninja Warrior next year, the most competitive season yet.

Nothing in Ninja land is guaranteed and it will be no different in 2021. Australian Ninja Warrior will be completely transformed as our Ninjas tackle more obstacles that defy gravity in show-stopping television of Olympic proportions.

Australian Ninja Warrior is produced by Endemol Shine Australia for Nine.

The show is returning to NSW next year, after two seasons in Melbourne, according to today’s Sunday Herald Sun.

Why? COVID restrictions?

The report didn’t say why the show is moving back to NSW.

Most of the producers etc are from Sydney so I guess it makes sense to do it up there, although it seemed to work well at the Showgrounds but they may have had noise and light complaints too.

The show’s new Sydney location was revealed today: Sydney Olympic Park. I wonder if it will use the athletics track in the precinct?

Registrations for tickets for the new season are now open at That’s the Ticket website. The show will be filmed at Qudos Bank Arena from February 25 to 28, with an evening session (8pm to midnight approx) and a late night session (12.30am to 2am approx) on each night. And that’s just for the heats.
It’s the first time in the show’s local history that it will be filmed indoors.

They are filming it indoors? Does the stadiums roof not open?

It just feels like a weird location to film it. They are obviously go for the sporting arena vibe but you’d need massive crowds in there to get that sort of impact.

The steel roof at Qudos Bank Arena is not retractable.

Didn’t they just announce Sydney Olympic park 9 days ago based on the announcement you posted? And now it’s moving to Qudos Bank Arena?

Qudos Bank Arena is in Sydney Olympic Park - formerly the Sydney superdome.

Also previously known as Acer Arena, Allphones Arena and possibly other sponsored names.

Thanks, I did google it quickly but it wasn’t clear.

Yes, but being at Sydney Olympic Park meant the show could be filmed outdoors or indoors because there are several venues available.

Yes but they can’t hire all of them for one show. That would add to their costs.

What I meant was the producers could choose one from several venues at SOP, not hiring all of them. I was surprised that they picked Qudos Bank Arena (meaning they would film the show indoors) instead of Sydney Showgrounds or the athletics field, which would have allowed them to film outdoors.
