But why would you? He sounds like any other session singer out there. Nothing special.
Synopsis for next Monday’s elimination - Jessica Mauboy is guest performer
After last night’s performances, the top 6 learn their fate. Only 3 singers will advance to the Grand Final. Who will be sent home and who will take one step closer to being the 2024 Australian Idol?
I love seeing such a diverse group of contestants. William’s swing version of Amy’s song “I Said Hi” was amazing.
A good idea to bring out an extra bench to the lounge for tonight’s performance show, so that up to four supporters of each contestant could sit on the bench, adjacent to the other contestants, and be closer to the action.
It was a good show tonight I think they could have made it a week longer and got rid of 2 instead of 3 contestants. Yes it would be Easter but a lot of people don’t go away or would watch it anyway. There is probably a rating reduction but probably because you put crap shows on as it is apparently non ratings then anything else not sure what Nine are doing and whether MAFS has also finished by that time.
I would have loved to see it air longer. As cutting three contestants the week before the Grand Final is alot. But the Easter week is sadly “non ratings period” which doesn’t count to the final ratings tally. And Seven and Nine dont like to air Grand Finals in that period.
Agree. If they are going to eliminate 3 people they should do it earlier on. There’s a good chance someone good will go tonight with half of them leaving. A better thing to do would be to eliminate 2 from last nights performance and then have the Final 4 sing again tonight, open voting and then eliminate one in Sunday’s show before the finale.
I really hope that Jake and Iilysh go. I just don’t see the appeal in Iilysh and am sick of them constantly throwing in our face how she’s from the tiny town of Culcairn. Jake is the worst of the bunch. William I find boring and repetitive, especially last night he made a fun song seem extremely boring to me. I think he will be in the final though.
Gisella needs to win. She actually has a lot of potential post show if given the right opportunities. She is probably the best that’s come out of the new Idol with the most potential. I get very Ariana Grande vibes.
I can see Gisella being invited to sing at Telethon in Perth in October this year.
My prediction for the final three: Marshall, Gisella and Jaymon.
Grand finale will feature Guy Sebastian, Marcia Hines, Casey Donovan and Tina Arena.
The three grand finalists will appear at Westfield Parramatta this Thursday at 5.30pm.
Australian Idol dreams within reach
Gisella, Iilysh and Marshall vie for Grand Finale glory
Tonight, in a tense and emotional live verdict, Australia voted 16-year-old Gisella Colletti from WA, 17-year-old Iilysh Retallick from Culcairn, NSW, and 19-year-old Marshall Hamburger from Queensland as their Australian Idol Grand Finalists on Seven and 7plus.
Australian Idol ’s Top 6 burst straight out of the gates with a high-energy group performance of There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back by Shawn Mendes.
Hosts Ricki-Lee and Scott Tweedie revealed that a record-breaking one million votes had been cast, and less than 1% separated those who made the Grand Finale from those who would bid a heartbreaking farewell.
Emotions ran high as each contestant performed solo before learning their fate.
Queensland cowboy Jake Whittaker, 30, put his country spin on John Cougar Mellencamp’s old-school hit Hurts So Good while Iilysh let her rock chick shine in Mr Brightside by The Killers.
Jaymon Bob, 23, from Queensland put his artistry on show with Post Malone’s Circles, while Gisella once again proved a voice beyond her years with a stunning performance of Celine Dion’s All By Myself.
William Le Brun, 21, from Melbourne, confirmed his swing king crown on High Hopes by Panic! At The Disco, while Marshall showed off his musical moves with Go West’s King Of Wishful Thinking.
In a heartbreaking result, Jake, Jaymon and William were eliminated from the competition.
On his departure, Jake thanked his wife and baby son, alongside the Australian Idol crew: “I honestly feel so good. I loved my time; it was an amazing experience. This is not the end of Jake Whittaker. I’ve got gigs coming up, check me out, I’m ready for this.”
Kyle Sandilands added: “You are sorted, it’s going to get better for you, man, good luck.”
Jaymon shared: “What a ride! I’ve only been doing this for a little bit. To audition for you legends and get to do what I want to do week in week out has been amazing.”
Marcia Hines said: “There is something so solid and honest about you, when you smile you need to know you light up the room.”
Amy Shark assured the talented performer: “You’re going to do some brilliant things. You are absolutely amazing.”
William thanked his family and fellow contestants: “It’s a privilege and a pleasure to be part of this group. Thank you so much couldn’t have wished for more. My dream has come true. This is not the end.”
Marcia noted the “joy” William brought to the Idol stage, adding she already had a duet in mind for them.
After receiving her life-changing spot in the Grand Finale, Iilysh shared: “I am over the moon. Thinking back to my audition day and to think I am here now, I can’t even believe it.”
“Thank you so, so much. You are making a little girl’s dream right now. I am ready to get rock and rolling!” she added.
Gisella said: “I’m so excited. It feels amazing to have this opportunity. Thank you Australia for voting. Thank you Perth for backing me.”
On his Grand Finale berth, Marshall, in true unique style, said: “I feel it my bones mate, I feel it in my bones.”
Kyle reflected: “I think Australia has voted really well, even though some people we love went home, what a Top 3 we have.”
In her first performance since the birth of daughter Mia, superstar Jessica Mauboy stunned the crowd with a powerful delivery of her ballad I’m Sorry.
The Australian Idol alumni shared: “I’ve been all around the world playing music, I’ve played incredible stages and met incredible people but she’s the most incredible person I’ve ever met. Motherhood is sleepless nights, and that’s ok, I wouldn’t trade it for the world.”

Kyle was seemingly caught off guard when Ricki-Lee said she would reveal the first verdict after the first pair (Illysh and Jake) performed.
I think the two hosts should have waited until after all six contestants (and Jessica Mauboy) had sung, before announcing the results of the sing offs and therefore the three grand finalists.
I thought it was a good idea to have one leave after each group of 2 sang
I also didn’t mind the way they did it tonight either. It was different.
Spread the eliminations out, rather than waste an hour of rambles, and then rush the 3 eliminations at the end of the show. Which was my initial thought of how it was going to be.
Disappointed William left. He offered something cool & different. His Version of Happy & Amy shark’s songs were amazing IMO
Giselle is drawing media attention here in Perth. She is only 16 and is in the final 3
It is remarkable that the three grand finalists are all under 20. Iilysh and Gisella are the youngest contestants to reach the decider since Jessica Mauboy in 2006.
Both would also be bidding to become the youngest winner since 16-year-old Casey Donovan in 2004, and the first female winner since Natalie Gauci in 2007.
Why? That would have made the episode drag more. At least we were getting results throughout the episode.
I’m not surprised that he went at all. To me he just sounded the same every single week and I never saw him do anything that showed any versatility or a great voice. That whole swing style pop isn’t a new concept either, Michael Buble has long done this so to me he just felt like a dated concept. Young audiences would not be voting for that.
Gisella deserves to win IMO but for whatever reason Iilysh seems super popular, so might be a tough one to beat.
