ARN Regional (formerly Grant Broadcasters)

And selling 4KQ….hope SEN don’t get it

I would imagine that Bay & K-Rock in Geelong would have to be divested, given the big overlap with the Melbourne commercial radio licence area. I wonder who would buy it? It can’t be ACE, as they already own 3MP & soon to operate Nine-owned Magic 1278.

Wow, this is huge news. Never did I think we’d see a day Janet parted with her stations (although they do get 20% of HTE, so are still in the game an actually increase their reach).

Interesting to see what happens with 6IX. Grant hold 50%, but the current arrangement sees it run as part of Kevin Blyton’s Capital Radio Network.

That’s not mentioned so the overlap may not be significant enough to trigger a sale?

41%, so it would be. Probably not mentioned due as that article sounds like it’s from HT&E’s press release.

The overlap’s greater than I thought. Interesting to see who snaps them up.

ARN will definately want 6IX if they convert to 104.9MHz and divest 50 percent of Nova 937 especially as radio listeners are mainly older now.

Given that Grant Broadcasters has a 50% stake in 2CA and 2CC and ARN has a 50% stake in Hit 104.7 and Mix 106.3, I wonder what will happen there? Could 2CA/2CC come under complete ownership of Capital Radio and Hit/Mix under SCA? Or could the new ARN own one lot or the other?

Also of note here, ARN still own 50% of Nova Perth (just as Nova own 50% of 97.3), so that creates a problem in Perth too.

Will Kevin buy the other 50% of 6IX?
Or do ARN/Nova end their partnership. 50% of Nova would make more than even 100% of 6IX, but it could give them two stations to sell in the market. Although with 4KQ gone that may be less desirable.

Maybe Nova could pickup 4KQ?
Ace might be interested, but not sure if they’d have the finance.

For Nova to pick up 4KQ they’d have to sell their half of 973

In exchange for ARN’s half of Nova Perth.

Huge news. That means ARN will have at least one radio station in every state and territory of Australia for the first time, ahead of SCA.

Could Grant’s NT stations become part of ARN’s KIIS network?

Would they really sell Brisbane’s No. 2 radio station?

What about West Coast Radio in Mandurah, could they pick up Geelong?

Yeah they “have to”. Unless they keep 94.9 FM.

Another interesting situation out of this news.

Burnie & Devonport’s licence areas overlap each other by just over 30%, meaning that one of the pair would now have to be sold to someone else. The question is, which one will be sold off & who will buy them?

Also, here are the overlaps of Ipswich (River) & Nambour (Hot 91) with Brisbane RA1:

Ipswich: 73.31%
Nambour: 33.4%

Yes but I still think in theory this means they could keep River, 97.3, Hot 91 and Zinc.

It’s a similar situation to Edge/WS/KIIS in that the markets are adjacent and overlapping but they don’t all overlap. Eg. River doesn’t overlap with Hot 91 or Zinc. Hot and Zinc are adjacent markets too and 97.3 doesn’t overlap much (if at all) with Zinc.
