ARN Regional (formerly Grant Broadcasters)

I just tuned in (online) they still say it is a “test transmission” with an ad the broadcast (on 2ST). The stream sounds pretty good. I can’t remember the last time I tune in but it has improved.

how about power FM here in Ballarat ?? is that taking the wave FM log?

No, it’s taking a different log, the same one used by K-Rock, Hot Tomato & Hot 91, among many others.

And is a poor attempt at music scheduling. Bringing down the quality of once great sounding stations such as Hot Tomato, scheduled ably by Simon Dawson for years.

Meshel Laurie is filling in for Jade Papesch on Wave FM breakfast, while Jade is on maternity leave.

This I just don’t get, considering the proximity of the Wollongong and Nowra licence areas, and both broadcasting from the same tower.
It is like KIIS and the Edge running the same playlist.

Maybe the strategy is to take Power fm out of the ratings completely like 2ST and boost the ratings of Wave against i98.

Power fm sounded it’s best about 12 months ago when it had a CHR format which it shared with Krock. Back then there was more variety in the Wollongong / Nowra markets then there is now.

Maybe Power was taking the younger listeners away from Wave?? So share the playlists across both station and listeners will tune to Wave for the stronger signal in the Wollongong market where Wave needs to rate.

Maybe they can call them the same. Wave FM covering Wollongong / The highlands / Shoalhaven on 96.5 and 94.9 FM. Or maybe Power FM sounds better. Just have “local breakfast shows”.

Or better still relaunch Wave FM as 2ST (Now covering Wollongong). As Power FM probably has adequate coverage there where I suspect 91.7 FM won’t cover as well as 94.9 FM.

No mention of the new service on their FB or website. Was there a switch over fanfare?

Interesting idea. I do wonder if at some point Grant won’t consider rationalising some of their station names. For example I get the feeling Hot Tomato will drop the tomato at some point to align with Hot 91 on the Sunshine Coast. The RDS is already just 1029 Hot, on my car anyway.

what i don’t get is what grants hasn’t opted to rebrand all of there power like radio stations as power fm . it would be better imo then having power like radio stations scattered all over the place lol

They’ll claim it’s because they’re local, but it’s really because it will be too expensive. Tens of thousands of dollars per station once you change logos on buildings, car, advertising, uniforms and anything else branded. They also have a more local sales approach compared to SCA which has a more National approach so would get less value from a change.

Well, as of this morning, 94.9 Power FM broke away from using the same log as Wave FM, in which they now take the same log as heard on Power FM Far South Coast, K-Rock, Hot Tomato, Hot 91 etc.

Wave & 7HO now shares its own log.

Grant must read these forums. Every time they put Wave and Power on the same music log, and we tell them how stupid this is they flick Power fm back onto a different log.

Oh they do! At least former 2NM announcers do!

When I was the publicity officer for local hockey back home, I had to do a 5 minute pre-record piece about that week’s games - essentially reading off whatever I put in the Advocate that week - for the Saturday sports show. One day, 2NM was off air during a particularly fierce rain storm, and I mentioned it here. I rang through to the studios, mentioned that they were off air, and the announcer (whose name escapes me) put two and two together.

I think it is a good thing if they read this forum. I think most of us love radio and we cannot have the wool pulled over us as easily .

According to myGC ‘The Big Kahuna’ has joined Hot Tomato hosting ‘Fat Nights’ from 7-10pm weeknights.

Local? Or networked? They should replace the Random 30.

Agree.

Local. Craig has worked for Hot Tomato before. Weekend shifts and part of the breakfast production team.

@AustralianAerial unlike 2002, it won’t be live, an easy task of creating voicetracks for an out of prime time a lot is much easier 19 years on.

Craig and Whippy the PD go way back to their days together on Sea.
