i disagree .power fm still play modern songs. you have must of listened when there was a special or something. and fyi i listen to power all the time .
I noticed the same with 2NM and Power FM Muswellbrook. Sometimes there were some tracks you’d think would be a 2NM staple end up on Power FM and vice versa.
Bay FM’s audience profile doesn’t suit a greatest hit format though. Much more Hot AC in profile, lots of 80s.
Poor you
According to Radioinfo, the current Regional Content Director for Victoria, Mark Hyland, will now also look after the SA stations, as well as maintaining his content leadership position with K Rock & Bay in Geelong. Glenn Bakker, currently Content Director for Magic 105.9, 5CS & 5AU in the Spencer Gulf, will now also be Operations Manager for all SA stations, whilst Adam Connelly, who is and will continue to be 5MU breakfast presenter, has been appointed as the new Content Director for 5MU & Power FM in Murray Bridge.
More here.
so does this mean the sa stations will now follow the wave fm logs and river fm logs?
The SA FM stations (Power FM Murray Bridge & Magic FM’s) are already taking the same log as Wave FM, whilst the AM stations (5MU, 5RM, 5CS, 5AU & 5CC) are currently taking the “Greatest Hits” log.
Elsewhere, with Nugget & Al now doing local drive on Hot 91 from 3 to 7pm, Fitzy & Wippa is now heard on Zinc 96 at 5pm weekdays. This reminds me of the time when Zinc 96 aired Hamish & Andy back in 2009-10 (when it was owned by Prime).
Great song though…
I think the kids like 80s music anyway. Went to a high school trivia competition last year and the kids knew a lot of the 80s song lyrics…
My 19yo god daughter loves Billy Joel, in particular Scenes From An Italian Restaurant, of all songs!
That’s fine, I don’t understand why a business would cannibalise their own audience in a Solus market.
Makes absolutely no sense as a former PD
Can confirm. A mate who is a high school teacher has told me that 70s/80s/90s are more common than the current hits.
I don’t really see how it’s cannibalising audience if the younger listeners don’t mind the older songs.
BBC have stated they don’t mind Radio 1 and Radio 2 competing with each other/crossing over to some extent.
I’m older and I like a mix of older and newer songs on my radio, and it seems younger people don’t mind either. I think it’s about percentages. For example I like 80% older, 20% newer songs and for the younger audience it’s probably the other way round.
Pfffft. Not around here. I’m sick and tired of them talking about WAP. Wish my kids had more taste than that.
I’m really sorry to hear this. As if 2020 couldn’t get any worse. Anyway, things can only get better, right?
Mal from the Moyra, Mal and Baggs drive program on Hot Tomato has left the station. The program is currently continuing with the remaining two presenters.
From Jocks Journal:
Mal Lees (formerly Club Veg) has left Hot Tomato on the Gold Coast. His contract ended and Grant Broadcasters did not offer a renewal. His last on air shift with Moyra and Baggs was Friday October 2.
Wonder if Moyra & Baggs will continue as a duo or whether Grant will organise a replacement?
Lees has commented on Twitter:
I like how Mal’S Twitter profile pic gives the opposition a mention.
Maybe it’s classic hit (music) now .
Hopefully takes a shorter break than Sean Flanagan and pairs up with Luke Bradnam again on drive down on 92.5
Grant Broadcasters are keen to cut costs it seems, Mal would be the last of the on air staff on a good wicket from the pre Grant days, two or three year contract up.
Mal & Luke have worked as a duo in the past. What’s the bet this’ll be a reunion on Triple M GC.
