ARN Regional (formerly Grant Broadcasters)

Another problem is more hard hitting stories can land news providers in hot water legally, particularly where the total picture is either not known or legally restricted, and this along with lack of resources/time means many outlets/broadcasters/newsreaders prefer to keep their noses dry with easier and lighter stories that they can’t get in trouble for.

Not a cost that many operators are able to regularly cover for in this more litigious day and age where often availability is wider (especially out of market when streamed online).

Is he doing any CD work? Or just announcing these days?

This must be the cue for ARN to change the station name and sack the content director

That only happens ONCE the station has a record survey.

Was thinking exactly the same thing

Yep, and it won’t be too long until almost all of ARN’s regional stations are turned into relays of what could be statewide feeds for the metropolitan stations. So that would mean KIIS could go statewide in NSW, wiping out stations like Power FM Nowra and Wave FM Wollongong, and replacing them with KIIS New South Wales. At the helm of Breakfast? Kyle & Jackie O. Same thing would apply for the Gold Network-formatted stations that would end up being Gold New South Wales, except it would be Christian O’Connell at the helm of their Breakfast timeslot.

But if they did go statewide with their stations nationwide, I would assume local ad feeds would be retained. No changes to Hot Tomato 102.9 Gold Coast, which has no networking whatsoever.

“They were also iHeart Radio’s #1 streamed station.”

I do wonder how many of those are people in Brisbane who listen to River 94.9 and stream it because the FM signal is a bit weak where they are?

There still isn’t the infrastructure for this.

Will it happen? Sure, in time - but it’s still 12+ months away.

Cannot be 100% networked as regionals must provide at least 3 hours of local content.
Regional KIIS would retain local breakfast and then networked for the remaining 21 hours a day.

I don’t think they would network Wave / Hot 91.1 and Hot Tomato, these stations have strong fortuitous reception from Sydney and Brisbane and would get smashed in the ratings by a strong local competitor.

It’s possible breakfast could be networked and they get local mornings like how Hit does it.

If that is the case local days would have to be five hours and then rejoin the KIIS feed at 3pm for the Pickup.
It would not make sense to have a local DJ from 10-1pm and two hours of Gordie until the pickup.

By networking days they can then run the same contests right across the country on all KIIS and Gold Stations. Surely regional Breakfast teams would be on a fraction of what their metro counterparts receive?

Maybe they were most streamed because listeners want a 4KQ format not a KIIS format.

Local mornings could be 9-12 or 10-1, and then a network jock for the next two/three hours.

I would say a fair chunk, especially since 4KQ’s demise.

If the regionals get rebranded as KIIS (which as far as I’m concerned is a big if because management have so far shown very little interest in the regional stations) then it’s a no brainer that it would part of a national rollout of Kyle and Jackie O, therefore meaning the local content would need to be during the workday shift.
