I could see the more successful J&A remain on WSFM with Christian on air across both 2MMM and 3MMM.
I can’t see Mick & MG lasting.

Maybe not, depends how long they are contracted for? Perhaps they’ll be offered a new shift and/or paid out.
Christian is a bit of an unknown in Sydney still.
Marty Sheargold is of more national significance than Christian. I hardly see ARN removing Marty from their new stable if the deal goes through.
Remember that Christian has signed a similar deal to K&JO with ARN…
Hence why I think ARN will have those two shows networked, while the other would keep local Fox and 2day breakfast and probably a network show like JAM on Gold.
Keep in mind, Christian was an unknown to the whole of Australia prior to coming to GOLD104.3. So they could simply copy & paste the strategy they used in Melbourne to introduce Christian to Sydney.
Does it do that in the app store or google play? because thats where it really matters
Ultimately the app is effectively called “listener” but just stylised as LiSTNR. I think the branding works for all the haters out there. haha
Well maybe it would if they didn’t have to keep spelling it all the time on air!
I agree that ARN will probably try to network Christian into Sydney, and possibly other markets. However, I have more concern about that that K&J in Melbourne. K&J have a show that doesn’t have much local content, to the extent that the move into Melbourne really won’t see much if any change to what the Sydney listeners are used to hearing.
Christian on the other hand has a very local show. It references Melbourne suburbs, AFL etc in almost every break - I’d go so far as saying that he built his brand in Melbourne by becoming more local than the existing Melbourne breakfast shows. Now is Christian capable of toning that down and making it less local. Certainly. But it’s going to change the on air product and could very well see a siginficant move away from his show - particularly if it were to happen at a time when he moved to Triple M as they’d lose any benefit that they might get from the rusted on listeners.
ask pointed out by @Radiohead … its so easy to find they spell it onair
Speaking of haters… has anybody read the reviews?
at least 50 negative comments to 1 positive
Mostly saying Buggy, Crashes randomly, glitchy
I think Christian will be networked on Triple M in Brisbane and Adelaide too. Not sure about Perth.
It’s bizarre. Surely part of the reason ARN want Triple M is to get the AFL and NRL rights - to not have local breakfast shows which compliment that is insane.
It’s more likely the Metro FM network (5 stations) compared to 2 FM and 1 AM for Gold, plus the massive regional network, that ARN most likely want.
Having control of LiSTNR and extra DAB capacity would also be a boon.
I don’t see how you can have nationalised programming with both sports - maybe they’ll go for some national programming rather than wall to wall national which seems to be the approach with KIIS
I suppose the big question on that is just generally, Triple M in Sydney and Melbourne are both relatively far down the pack - it’s not like they are taking a successful formula like KIIS 1065 and making that national.
ARN have managed to still not try and fully network the playlist of Gold and WS, seemingly with the realisation that both are working and finding their place in the market, so it’s not worth touching.
If they decided Triple M had to mean something and make it the same nationally, it would destroy them in all markets. I suppose the Brisbane/Adelaide Triple M would do better in Melbourne/Sydney than the reverse, but they’ve tried that before and have somewhat improved things in Melb/Syd with their current positioning, and Perth really found their stride - though I suppose if you blew up 96fm to make it KIIS, then there would be space in the market for MMM Perth to have the Bris/Adelaide format.
The best strategy is still to just keep Gold/WS - take the other Triple M stations and the brand, but the costs of operationally splitting up Triple M from 2Day/Fox aren’t worth it for either ACP or ARN. 96fm, Gold and WS fit the rest of the “Triple M network” (the other capitals + regionals) in format better than the existing Triple M in those cities does.
I know the docs so far don’t suggest that, but it’s tossing away so much value for ARN shareholders to trade some of their best assets for worse performing Triple M stations. I don’t think switching Christian over to 105.1 suddenly fixes their ratings and jumps them to be where Gold is, it’s a good show, but people like Gold’s music, and their ‘more music’ over the talk of Triple M.
This is the bit I don’t really get. Is it just the Triple M branding and the national network that ARN actually wants? Because their Gold network really only consists of WSFM Sydney, Gold 104.3 Melbourne and Cruise 1323 Adelaide (which is on AM). WS and Gold are arguably more popular than Triple M in both cities.
So presumably, they’ll pretty much move WSFM and Gold 104.3’s talent and music format to Triple M Sydney and Melbourne, tweak Triple M Brisbane and Adelaide’s music (which won’t be much of an adjustment), possibly move some of the older talent from 97.3 and Mix102.3 respectively before fully KIIS-ifying both, and then basically shift the music and talent from 96FM Perth to Triple M Perth, before blowing up 96FM and KIIS-ifying that too.
I think ARN just want Triple M for its sport.
One thing I do hope that changes is they make the regional MMM take the Metro Log
It is weird driving from Toowoomba to Brisbane with them both been called Triple M but have completely different types of music
I have always known Triple M to be a rock format, not this mis mash of music like the regional markets seem to have
