ARIA Awards

That’s a great honour.

As the broadcast partner, you’d think Nine would still get to air this on 9Now and maybe across their socials? Good that they’re still going ahead, instead of just cancelling them like the Logies.

But it’s a shame that for the first time in three decades there will be no TV broadcast.

TBH, it would not be massively surprising if all future ARIA Awards ceremonies were produced as an online-only event. Don’t think the TV broadcasts have rated all that well for many years anyway…

It will be on 9Now.

You’d think they could at least have it on 9Go! It’s out of ratings season anyway.

ARIAS dazzle in a famous news venue

The 35th annual ARIA Awards will go to air live under the roof of Sydney’s spectacular Taronga Zoo for the first time on Wednesday, streaming free at 7.30pm AEDT on 9Now.

The awards will feature exclusive performances from some of Australia’s most successful global exports, including The Kid LAROI who shot to stardom after his collaboration with US rapper Juice Wrld, along with emblematic electronic trio RÜFÜS DU SOL with an entrancing performance of their popular single Alive , all the way from Los Angeles.

They will be joined by a stellar, all-Australian lineup including eight-time ARIA Award winner Amy Shark alongside Genesis Owusu, Budjerah and Gretta Ray.

In the year we lost one of the music industry’s legends, Michael Gudinski, who was pivotal in discovering many of the world’s biggest names, ARIA have renamed the Breakthrough Artist Award after him, and Ed Sheeran will present it in a special video tribute.

This year’s list of nominations highlights the extraordinary talent across a wide range of genres, with Hip Hop newcomer Genesis Owusu and Amy Shark leading with six each. The incredibly talented Budjerah has five nominations alongside Midnight Oil, Tones and I and Vance Joy. Other artists with multiple nominations include Matt Corby, Kylie Minogue, Keith Urban, Ball Park Music, Ngaiire, The Kid LAROI and RÜFÜS DU SOL.

It wouldn’t be Australian music’s most celebrated ceremony without an impressive string of presenters which this year, as well as worldwide heart throb Ed Sheeran, includes international electropop queen Charli XCX, Australia’s long-loved legends The Wiggles, and previous ARIA Award winners Ruel, Troye Sivan and Lime Cordiale.

Nine’s entertainment presenter Brooke Boney will present 16 ARIA awards in part one of the broadcast starting at 6.30pm AEDT, which will lead into the main event at 7.30pm AEDT.

For the full lineup of presenters and music acts visit the ARIA website.

It was a fairy short event tonight, the pre-show and the ceremony itself added up to around two hours. The rain in Sydney could be partly to blame.

ARIA Awards return 24 November

YouTube, Nine Network and Destination NSW return for music’s night of nights.

Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) today announced that the 2022 ARIA Awards in partnership with YouTube will return Thursday, 24 November, broadcast across Australia on the Nine Network and streamed to the rest of the world on YouTube.

The 2022 ARIA Awards will be held at Sydney’s iconic live music venue, The Hordern Pavilion on Gadigal land and available to watch LIVE and FREE on Channel 9 and 9Now across Australia. Nine are proud to once again be alongside Australia’s local artists and music community with this year’s broadcast.

The ARIA Awards celebrates its fourth year in partnership with YouTube, proudly showcasing the achievements of Australian music on a global scale, with last year’s awards clocking over 1.7 million views on YouTube. With the return of the 2022 ARIA Awards as an in person event, YouTube will livestream the red carpet, providing access to all the pre-show excitement.

ARIA CEO, Annabelle Herd, said: “In 2022 we are absolutely thrilled to bring the ARIA Awards back to a full-scale, television event packed with the performances, glitz, and glamour that Australian music fans know and love. Nine has been a fantastic partner to ARIA over 6 years, as have YouTube and Destination NSW. With their support we can continue to create opportunities for Australian music to be heard in all its forms, by all who create it. We can’t wait to put on a sensational show at The Hordern in Sydney live and in person on the 24th of November.”

Melanie Silva, Managing Director of Google Australia on behalf of YouTube said: " “We’re back! YouTube is thrilled to partner with ARIA for a fourth year, to support, spotlight and celebrate the Australian music industry and amazing local artists. YouTube is a place where it’s possible to go from making a music video in your bedroom to booking a world tour - and while the last couple of years involved making more music at home than usual, we can’t wait to help bring Australian acts back to a world stage once again, by streaming the ARIA Awards direct from the iconic Hordern Pavilion this November. For the first time, we’ll also be bringing viewers all the glamour and excitement of the red carpet, live on YouTube.”

9Now and Programming Director, Hamish Turner, said: “Nine are thrilled to welcome back this year’s broadcast of the ARIA Awards. Australian music’s night of nights will once again welcome back a live audience to enjoy brilliant performances from some of the biggest names in the industry. We are excited to honour and celebrate the incredible talent which makes the Australian music industry one of the best in the world.”

Minister for Enterprise, Investment and Trade Minister for Sport and Tourism – The Hon. Stuart Ayres MP, said: The NSW Government is proud to partner with ARIA Awards again this year. We are thrilled to have Nine Network as broadcast partners in addition to global streaming access across YouTube to celebrate what promises to be an incredibly exciting ARIA Awards at Sydney’s iconic live music venue The Hordern Pavilion. Music and live entertainment are vital to our social and economic wellbeing, so we are committed to supporting the industry’s recovery through events like ARIA Awards, Great Southern Nights and other initiatives such as the Live Music Support Package and CBD revitalisation programs.”

There have been a host of Australian successes over the past 12 months, with over 67 Australian releases having landed in the Top 10 on the ARIA Albums Chart, and 13 Australian albums reaching #1.

More announcements to come.

Not sure if this should be in the ARIA Awards thread or the music thread.

Last week, singer Tasman Keith called for changes to the ARIA Awards voting system, revealing that his acclaimed debut album, A Colour Undone, didn’t meet the voting criteria for either Best Hip Hop Release or Album of the Year.

Brooke Boney announced nominees for the 2022 ARIA Awards this morning.

Natalie Imbruglia and Lewis Capaldi will co-host the awards ceremony on Thursday, November 24.

A Scottish singer to host an Aussie award show? WTF? Hopefully viewers will be able to understand his accent. And Natalie Imbruglia was relevant about 25 years ago.

The ARIAs are a celebration of AUSTRALIAN music and should be hosted by AUSTRALIAN music stars or TV hosts. Why bother importing hosts from overseas?

A few years back there was controversy when the ARIAs wanted to have overseas performers on the show. Now they want them as hosts. :man_shrugging:
