Had a decent opening to outback QLD/Alice before I had to leave home, noted a few open carriers - and txers running what I presume is an updated VAST loop on 101.3 and 104.5. 4JJJ Birdsville confirmed on 102.9. Also had Mount Isa up to 107.3 strong for over an hour.

VK2KRR at The Rock had Port Hedland briefly on 91.7 with RDS. Not a sign of it here, only got the single hop which would explain Birdsville.

Also had 4RFM coming in over Flow Meringur on both polarisations, a quite strong opening.

I also believe I had a very weak Sky Sports Radio from Brewarrina on 96.1 for a short time, a 10w TX!

Only 20 minutes later I had FNQ into Mildura again, I suspect it’s the heat that’s supercharging Es openings. It seems to favour the north as I haven’t had WA again since midday.

Es occurs in the ionosphere; weather occurs in the troposphere. It’s true that Es occurs during the time that hot weather is most prevalent, but correlation doesn’t imply causation.

PIcked up a station on 87.5 - any rouge stations on that frequency? Only had for one minute. I suppose could have been an in car transmitter.

Reviewing the predictive Hepburn Tropo maps there’s a possibility of NZ to NSW central to north coast tropo reception tomorrow night.

Es in again, seems to be on a bit of a bull run at the moment. Getting Cairns up to 107.5 as well as Townsville FM.

NZ tropo is always a possibility with a Tasman block and heatwave.

Speaking of NZ Tropo, there are a couple of remote TEF servers based in Auckland if you want to try for trans Tasman Tropo the other way round. :winking_face_with_tongue:

I did have a brief tune on them a few days ago and unfortunately they are pretty deaf; I could only get the locals and not even any local LPFMs. So I doubt they’d get anything from the West Island, strong Es excepted.

The one called FENNERS seems to get stuff better, it gets LPFMs and has some stuff from Hamilton with RDS in flat conditions
