I’m in the south of Sydney.
I’m about 10 kms south of Newcastle, on a hill, which helps with my catches.
NSW Southern Highlands
I turned it to 103.39 and no luck.
NW Sydney
Sydney weaker tonight, and South Coast particularly good, able to get Bega 94.5 2EC over FBI, and 102.5 Power over 2MBS, both around 35 dbuv with RDS.
Had Brown Mountain on 99.3 over 2NSB when it faded down, but it was only 8 dbuv, scratchy stereo. Still had 2HHH and 2BAC though.
Also have 2BRW with RDS (@dxnerd) and Batemans Bay stations all with RDS including 2EAR.
Conditions are more variable tonight too. Stations often fading up or down.
Probably due to the weaker inversion/easterly. Didn’t reach Bungendore but has obviously reached Braidwood. Glad to know we are wresting control of 88.9 for the moment. You would have caught our flagship ‘Hot Topics’ programme.
Nice one! I would let Bill know but he’s probably finished up now. You can always text the studio on 0419 722 578 if you’re getting us during a live show.
Tropo still about tonight, but not as strong as Sunday night.
Still managed to get stations from Coffs down to Eden and across to SW Slopes, just not as many, or as strong or consistently eg. heard ABCs Batemans Bay, weak commercials but no 2EAR. Had Coffs ABCs, but not 105.5/106.3. Did have Kempsey and Port Macquarie commercials, but only Port had RDS.
Sydney and Wollongong pretty strong still, again just not as strong as last two nights.
Weather change expected on Thursday, so probably not mich of this left for now.
Some tropo this evening bringing in King Island community radio to Melbourne. I’ve only ever caught this station in Apollo Bay and Cape Patterson before.
Nice work. A King Island visit is still on my to-do list, definitely in tropo season. King Island summers are perfect; winter/spring not so much when gale force winds and showers are the usual fare (apart from cheese and crayfish pies).
I haven’t been to Cape Paterson but have been to Cape Liptrap- harder to get to but probably superior for Tassie reception. I had 7SBS Hobart fade up very well in June there, probably helped by a bit of As.
Noice! I had the Hobart ABC/SBS stations at Stanley Village in April, just near “The Nut” and there is a little water path from there to the south which helps too.
Sunshine FM went off air this morning and was replaced by a strong signal ABC Local radio from Southern Downs. It surprising that it’s possible to receive either station in Brisbane given how strong the signal was. Sunshine FM then slowly faded back up to full strength.
Otherwise Rockhampton ABCs into Brisbane (as usual!).
As we are about to hit E-Skip Season, an important alert from Northland.
Might be a bit difficult for Sydneysiders to receive during openings to Northland (both Tropo and E-Skip) as its in between 2BLU and 2GLF.
The strongest station from Northland is usually 91.6 More FM in any case, followed by Hauraki on 93.2 and The Edge on 94.0. I am not sure if the old Trackside 92.4 has been reactivated with SENZ?
Skip has been quiet so far by all accounts.
Based on your observations and what I have seen, there is still no RDS on 102.3 Canberra - ABC Classic.
Well when last observed the RDS subcarrier was very low such that one had to be in the local area or Canberra to note it.
Looking at the ABC website I did find this message without a report date.
Song Title / Artist Information Display (CITY 2601)
ABC Classic (102.3FM) Canberra is not displaying song title and artist information. This is due to an equipment fault, and we’re working to restore this feature. In the meantime, please use the ABC Classic website for current and recent song title / artist details. The ABC listen app and DAB+ Digital Radio are also displaying current info. Thank you for your patience.
They (ABC/BAI) don’t appear to be in a hurry to fix the issue, if the above ‘also’ refers generally to the low RDS subcarrier or RDS in general from 102.3MHz Canberra?
I am desperate to find a time where 91.9 Sea Sunshine Coast is off air, as I’m almost certain I’d hear Hit Warwick here without it on air. There’s areas on the hill right near me where I can hear both, but as you know the Sunny Coast signals are just too strong across Brisbane to allow any clear reception.
Central Q strong doing well including Gladstone and Rocky commercials tonight in SEQ
