Yes you can get them quite regularly along the Great Ocean Road between Anglesea and Lorne during summer. Seafm Burnie is usually the strongest of the commercials I find, Chilli from Launceston is a bit more variable depending on the conditions. LA FM is often nulled out by KIX country from Geelong. The other way, the Melbourne fm’s boom well into northern Tassie
Bass Strait is like a big evaporative cooler in summer as hot airmasses from the continent move over its much cooler waters (no more than 20C, usually). This creates a massive temperature inversion near the surface, and any place affected by the Bass Strait seabreeze is likely to see tropo.
The presence of the cool Bass Strait air also creates an area of high pressure: good for tropo. The cooler the water, generally the more stable the air; this is why areas like SW VIC and coastal SA don’t see very many storms in summer (aside from very big incursions of tropical moisture from the north).
The Tasman Sea isn’t as efficient in this regard as it’s a lot warmer, and because of this its seabreeze often produces a more unstable airmass (storms). That changes during a ‘Tasman block’ strong high pressure scenario and its then trans-Tasman tropo becomes possible.
Was shaping up to be a decent morning for AM/FM DXing in Renmark S.A, ended up being completely dead again looking at the Hepburn charts
A bit of enhancement about tonight.
Wave and i98 with RDS into southern Newcastle along with weak 91.7 2ST Nowra and variable ABC reception from Batemans Bay. Power 94.9 is interfering with Rhema, but not strong enough to break through in a null.
Middle Brother ABCs better than usual, but nothing further north.
Getting some troppo this morning with Middle Brother ABC at low level on 96.3 and 98.7.
Troppo again tonight. Furthest/most interesting Triple M 106.7 Kempsey. Most of the always received signals from that direction like Grafton, Coffs, Mt Dowe etc stronger. 2COW Casino 107.9 also received at low level + 2LM Kyogle 104.3.
Had this earlier:
The opening was around noon. 98.6 ‘The Hits’ came up with RDS and Auckland was with it briefly, up to 100.6 Tragic Talk. Hamilton FM briefly hit 103.4 Niu FM and 89.8 ZM was also in there, from the lower Ruru site. I think Free FM might transmit from there too.
Interesting that the ID said ‘eighty nine point zero’ which I find a bit nerdy! It’s usually just ‘89 FM’.
It’s actually 100.6 Magic (or Tragic, if you prefer ) Music. Given the imminent launch of Today FM, it’s uncertain whether Magic Music would remain on this frequency, let alone on FM in Auckland.
Thanks- hard to keep up with NZ radio, given it changes so frequently!
Reception now picking up from the north do there are multiple stations on some frequencies. 102.5 had Breeze Tenterfield and Breeze Childers. 103.1 has ABC Rockhampton and Grafton. 106.7 has Rebel Childers and MMM Kempsey.
South Australia into Brisbane now.

Managed some RDS
I got 102.3 Townsville here in Bowral, had to null out Canberra to get it as the opening was in its tail end. Also got RN on 104.7
Also Star 106.3 and possible 105.9 Cairns.
I’m currently getting SBS Radio on 104.3 in Sydney, broadcasting French program. According to ACMA, it’s from either Eidsvold or Hughenden.
I got the French program on 103.5 as well. Thought it was New Caledonia until you came along. Definitely from Queensland, do not have a recording of it but it was mixing with Batemans Bay.
Had Breeze Tenterfield at good levels this morning. Seems to be general enhancement from NNSW.
And with the borders reopening soon, hopefully you’ll get more “cases” from NSW
97.9 ABC Radio Classic briefly strong in Renmark, possibly an E skip. Initially thought it was 97.9 Triple M Mildura until I heard the ABC Classic mentioned
EDIT. Likely E skip from the Grafton/Coffs area in NSW as an ABC station is now intermittent on 92.3
Now a brief Triple M station on the 92.3
Sounds like you are getting Mackay / Airlie Beach QLD via E skip then! Both stations fit that.
The 92.3 looks to be a repeater of Triple M for Mackay. Others looked like they were from around the Coffs Harbour/Grafton areas. Actually they could be from the Mackay area since there’s a 97.9 there too
