Yes, I also don’t listen to Flow not being in their areas but I would be pretty sure that Flow would have a statewide feed for their small town repeaters, hence why you hear everything (even ads) from all across VIC.
Absolutely. You should be able to hear 95.1 News, 96.7 JJJ & 101.5 Classic, provided nothing else is co-channeling with them.
89.5 Apollo Bay was always listed as 3LO/t, so a straight feed from Melbourne is likely. It’s been on for years too, logged frequently from Mount Waverley. I think I may have heard it once or twice via short hop Es in Sydney.
88.1 3MFM should also make the trip across the Gulf. @NDY would be interested in a report.
I think it’s an Adult Contemporary format, leaning more towards retro. Don’t forget Flow is a solus operator in its markets providing a single service, unlike Rebel/Breeze. There may also be some religious programming? Also plenty of networked programming, so they’re a bit of an ‘all things to all people’ station.
I don’t go down to Flow territory that often, and as noted they don’t stream.
ABC’s Wide Bay off with planned maintenance tonight. Surprised by good reception of 2ZZZ . Unusual at my location, usually not possible due to RN Wide Bay dominating. Also 4RIM clear as well from Boonah with continuous country music.
I reckon either would be fairly permanent into Brisbane if the other wasn’t there. I blamed ABC for my challenges in getting 2ZZZ with RDS (when it had it) here as it was just enough of a problem in the background, but similarly 2ZZZ might make it much better into Brisbane if not for the competition.
Went for a drive up to Singleton this morning, did a bit of DXing at Apex Lookout.
Mt Dowe reception was strong enough for me to get 95.9 SKY Sports Radio over ABC Port Stephens. First time I’ve had that there. Though 97.5 was still 2HD and 101.5 was still Great Lakes FM.
Had the trifecta of Triple Js lined up across 101.9, 102.1 and 102.3 as well. This can be achieved at times in Newcastle (and Sydney too I imagine), harder in Newcastle where Hit 102.3 is usually dominant.
I also whipped the Teccy out and saw that the Bulga Mine TXs all had stereo pilots on 89.3 (Power FM), 90.1 (ABC Local Upper Hunter) and 90.9 (JJJ). I should have taken my headphones with me to find out if they were outputting true stereo on Power and JJJ. Next time. As I don’t think the mining or self help TXs are often in stereo though.
I had that trifecta 24/7 in Oatley with a Yagi, and often on just a portable as well.
Ducting could be OK over the next week with a slow moving high pressure system, with some quite balmy weather (for late April/early May) developing here later in the week. Decile 9 maxima will be achieved for the first few days in May at least, which qualifies as a heatwave. There has been plenty of unusual warmth elsewhere in the Southern Hemisphere, so it was only a matter of time before we copped some.
Little bit of ducting tonight in Traralgon so I thought I’d do some DXing before I get my antenna tomorrow.
In terms of Melbourne, Like usual all ABC and SBS Stations were clear but thats normal, what surprised me was Commercial Stations that are nulled to the east were coming in, GOLD 104.3 even got to the point where the stereo symbol came up. Smooth 91.5 and Nova 100 were both clearer then usual, but those I can get a listenable signal any day of the week if I hold my DX Portable Radio up in the air. But starting to not be surprised with Melbourne anymore, as it turns out Melbourne Stations can reach Traralgon without too much trouble anyway, obviously the ducting helped.
More Interesting Stuff, 4KQ was again overlapping 3AW but 4KQ was louder then 3AW was this time. Got a weak signal from ABC Perth 720 and something was coming in weak on 94.5, it would be my guess that it was 3YB from Warrnambool.
Looks like the Tropo supports me having a Metro Antenna, although ideally it would need to go away for the Signal Test so we dont get a reading that only works with tropo around.
I seem to be hearing Vision Australia Radio again on 1053 am here in Melbourne. I can’t find any licence for them on that frequency anywhere on the ACMA database. I don’t think it’s a local harmonic. Of an evening I can only hear 2CA on that frequency from Canberra. Anyone have any ideas of where it is coming from?
