AM and FM DX

went south out on the Myalla Rd today just for a bit of fun. Found one spot where Albury / Mt Baranduda came in strong. Some notes:
2XL 98.7 just a open carrier - no audio
87.6 Raw-FM Jindabyne - open carrier
105.9 Jindy still on air - open carrier
91.7 / 92.5 Bombala only Mono at present

Had a flick through the AM frequencies on my car radio in Renmark. Very faint signal on 873 and another weak signal on 1269, sounded like talkback radio. Googled the frequencies and came up with 2GB Sydney and another possible Sydney station

The Sydney talkback station on 1269 is 2SM.

Of which you are possibly the only listener, @Shaun1997

Lol, some of the arguments on talkback are great. Almost need to get the popcorn ready

I know, I sometimes listen to get a chuckle.

Like yesterday afternoon, one listener phoned in to say how great Audrey Hepburn was on a horse in an old western movie. That conversation somehow managed to last 7-8 minutes. That made me laugh for some reason!

after something like 5 years, 106.5 Cooma is back on SBS programming after running the ā€œinfamousā€ VAST Ch800 music

Magic 1278 AM Melbourne (formerly Macquarie Sports Radio 1278) on my car radio tonight in Renmark S.A, was actually able to listen to what was being said with minimal background static, heard ā€˜Melbourne’ as I switched to the bandwidth along with Nine news. AM tends to be easier to DX compared to FM stations

AM tends to travel over long distances better than FM. At night-time (from late afternoon during the cooler months), AM can travel further than during the day, bringing with it more stations to choose from, especially in an area where there’s very little choice locally.

I’d imagine the Melbourne stations would come in easily at night where you are.

In addition to the usual 909 kHz from China, I received a Chinese station on the car radio on 783 kHz, though not sure which one it was. 1035 Newstalk ZB from New Zealand was coming in quite well also.

well done catching those on a car radio. 783 is hard to hear on a car radio down here due to 3LO 774 on the adj freq

Voice Of The Strait, which I believe is from SE China (Fujian). It is directed at Taiwan.

The voice of strait is aimed for the South China sea islands (Mainly for all the military and construction personnel). It’s also on Shortwave and can be picked up fairly easily at night on the following frequencies.

Down at Tuross Head for lunch (from Bungendore). All Mount Wandera ABCs currently off air; managed to get Triple M Orange quite well with ID. I’ll upload the video later. Also weak 103.5 Orange and 100.5 Newcastle. Some tropo up the coast with Triple M Gosford strong and 102.1 Newcastle good. 97.1/98.7 Taree in weak.

102.3 3BA and 107.9 ABC from Ballarat, 89.3 KIX Country Geelong and also 89.1 South Gippsland FM is making a strong appearance into the northern suburbs of Melbourne today.

Good to hear we’re broadcasting up to the north. The 89.1 signal often makes it out to the end of the EastLink in an average car radio.

Sorry I did get the name wrong but it was 3MFM and wasn’t perfect signal but listenable into the Broadmeadows area.

What model car radio is that?

Looks like the previous generation Kia Cerato?

What’s the sound quality like?
