I guess you could say ‘Good Morning, Vietnam!’. Well done on those catches.

6IX! That’s a good catch in the east, particularly for a 2kw-er and against 2MO and TAB Hobart.

Reminds me of the very first thing I did when I arrived in Perth for the first time in 2007 and got into my rental car. And that was to tune straight to 6IX, as I had never heard any 6xx call sign on the radio before. I listened to that station way more than any other when I was there (and as they hadn’t started streaming back then).

The same thing happened in Darwin in 1987 when on family holidays, I grabbed the car keys off my Dad and tuned straight to 8DN.

I have to ask, is 1359 ‘The Coast’ from Taranaki NZ a common one on the east coast here?

It was booming in like a local last night here in Brisbane, although I imagine with the relatively clear frequency and water path that’s fairly typical?

Sadly in the very noisy environment I live in MW DX is quite difficult for me, and I haven’t had the time to get out and about with a portable

Yes, 1359 Coast Taranaki is one of the more common catches from NZ. It only has the low powered TAB outlet at Mildura to compete with now that 4WK is gone.

Ah of course, I had forgotten that was 4WK Toowoomba - hence why I don’t recall having heard it before here. Thanks

I also forgot - received 819khz 6KW Kununurra WA mixed with 2GL - you could hear the echo effect betweens transmitters - https://youtu.be/zw9MoWKQ1ts

Another great catch!

Nothing else on 819 in Oz from memory apart from those two.

There’s been some enhancement about today.

This morning had HIT Port Macquarie at consistent listenable levels on the car radio near home.

Went up to Maitland and received Mt Dowe ABCs at weak levels at times on the New England Highway, usually not received at all.

And in one spot 92.9 Tamworth was received. Never received that in Maitland before.

what ID handle does 92.9 Tamworth use these days? When I used to receive it in the 90s/2000s it was “The Heat 92.9”

I think it’s just “92 point 9”, I was last up that way last October and that’s what it was then.

I don’t recall any other positioner being used.

It was known as One FM for a brief period not so long ago. Back to just 92.9 now I believe.

Did all the 131009 stations use “The Heat” branding back in the late 90s? 4NNN Gympie (Zinc) was also known as The Heat 96.1 back in 1998.

Most Super Network stations generally still used their own IDs during local programming, “The Heat” ID usually appeared only during network programming via way of announcer station IDs and in program sweepers, though station IDs would still appear at the end of an ad break.

Im on a job in Tamworth at the moment, and had 92.9 on for most of the day while working. Yes they ID simply as ‘92.9’. They were local today until 12.

2YOU is also simply known as ‘88.9’ and has a very consistent sound.

Will have a flick around for some dx when I get a chance, have the tecsun with me.

A bit of tropo around this morning at my location. Enhancements of all the Newcastle Fm stations with the commercial fm stations all received in stereo, but not strong enough to decode RDS.

Eagle fm in stereo with RDS, and Power fm over Rhema CC.

2RSR is broadcasting a program with super low deviation resulting in super narrow bandwidth such that bandwidth is measuring now at around 18kHz. Would be perfect opportunist time for NZ DX reception if it was that time of year, as reception of 88.8 & 89.0 would be clear or clearer.

Have never seen such narrow bandwidth on FM broadcast band.
STOP PRESS: Just about to post this message & the tech turned up deviation to 180kHz bandwidth…
oh well.
