AM and FM DX (2015-2025)

Port Moresby booming into SEQ now. Overriding semi-locals.

Cairns, Townsville also coming in.; and now Mackay, Innisfail.

Cairns mixing with Port M

I noticed that as well - it is listed as a temp station by ACMA

Had unid on 93.5 - finally resolved as Laef FM Honiara.

SIBC now coming in.

Thanks for the capture Rob. I didn’t have time to do so.

I reckon I had 12 PNGers in total. But at least three unconfirmed.

I suspect 107.5 PM was there, but was o/c.

No RDS recovered on any PNGers via Rob’s webserver.

Solomon Islands BC confirmed on 96.3.

Later overwhelmed by Cairns.

NQ coming in strong - Mossman; Kool FM as well

PNG stations - will have to check recordings for anything else. 89.9 was noticeably absent.

PNG still strong on some frequencies but band is congested.

Hearing both 95.5 and 97. 1 here too

The sound on 4AM Ravenshoe 91.3 seems very poor.

Blank carriers on 92.9 and 95.1

Damn it, missed the boat on this one. Looks like it’s just FNQ now. Cairns strong up to 107.5 on the Bribie TEF. 88.5 Triple M Mossman also in, one I’ve not logged from here.

Congrats on the Solomons, a very rare catch in Australia. Was the tx from Honiara or on the Aussie facing ‘Weather Coast’? Honiara is behind a mountain range and so is very hard to hear.

96.3 listed as Wantok;

SIBC Wantok FM 96.3 location

Wantok is Melanesian Pidgin for ‘one talk’ and not the location. I am assuming Honiara though as they use (d) 101,1 for ‘Paoa FM’ (Power FM).

‘Wantok’ is also used by 93.9 PNG aka Radio Wantok light.

Short skip now to Airlie Beach (89.9, 90.7 and 91.5) but I’ll leave you to it since I can get QLD from here.

Receiving Breeze 92.1 from Cooktown simultaneously with 92.1 Breeze Logan.

Wonder if Es from hit 101.9 was overtaking the off air RDS on the star 90.7 repeater here? I’ve seen something similar happen a few times with 89.7 ABC Lileah relaying 104.9 Lime FM instead of ABC RN.

Tried for 105.7 Cooktown but it was just Toowoomba. Didn’t know they used 92.1. There’s a Rebel on 104.9 as well I think.

Weipa might be another target. The Cape York Peninsula is too far for single hop Es from here. Bamaga right at the top uses 91.9 I think.

I managed to reproduce this readout for Radio Maria (initially unid)

Re 103.5 reception:

Nice! This is Port Moresby too, from their FB page.

Yes - only RDS from PNG I saw, over the top of Fraser Coast MMM.

Nice work, I’ve always struggled to resolve RDS from PNG. Unlike NCL where I learnt what French for “the first” was :joy:

You aren’t an east coast DXer until you’ve seen ‘La 1’ere’ on your radio.
