AM and FM DX (2015-2025)

Yes, Strathfield being pretty close to Homebush where most of the Sydney commercial AM stations had their transmitters would have been an excellent spot for Sydney AM reception… very central.

Yep the other stations were very strong whereas the 1224 transmitter is at Prospect with restrictions in a few directions

Yes, though the 1224 restrictions were just really north and south to protect 1233 Newcastle and 1215 Bowral. East and west weren’t really affected.

And east too as the signal isn’t good in the city, Eastern suburbs or northern beaches

To the east that’s probably more a product of distance, city noise, big buildings etc hampering the signal.

Had 1224 been at Homebush, reception in the city in the east and on the coast should have been comparable to the other Sydney commercial AM stations to my knowledge.

Has anyone else in the Sydney area noticed any change to 2HHH receotion since it came back on air a couple of weeks ago?

Seems a bit stronger here, and sounding better too to my ears.

Some good catches about tonight

Funny the school I went to also based in Strathfield used 2WS as the station to announce if school Saturday sports were called off due to weather. Some people travelled distances to the school even from as far as Cronulla, so too bad if you lived in an area with patchy reception

Nice to catch this before Triple M came back to dominate

Awesome catch! I had been trying for this past two days without luck via your webserver.
I did manage a surprise RDS decode of 100.7 4US yesterday & decodes
of Gladstone’s 93.5 & 95.1MHz were nice too. Not sure if RadioTAB Gladstone
on 94.3MHz has reinstated their RDS, was weaker than the commercials.
Your North directed Yagi is performing very nicely.

Another good night for reception from the north into Brisbane. As well as the the usual Rockhampton stations, Gladstone and Yeppoon at low levels. Mackay also at good levels again.

Update ABC FM Cairns on 105.9 at stereo strength

Edit: reception improved to static free with massive opening to the north now up to band III TV.

Also received Cairns on 101.1 (over the top of Logan 101)

105.5 and 106.3 are Rockhampton in the image

Had a brief moment this morning to get up to 82m ASL in West Coffs with a southerly takeoff (albeit slightly blocked by hills) to get a look at the whole FM band on the tinySA. Kempsey, Port Macquarie and Manning River all in at good levels. Local stations at local strength as expected.

You make me wonder if I should swing my antenna to the north now, that’s excellent reception.

Of course, if I do I’m sure the opening will die off with this cool change coming through.

Reception was eventually strong enough you wouldn’t have needed to turn the antenna. It was coming in off the back of a south facing one that I used to check where the reception was from.

This morning was the first of the winter morning DX catches, I had briefly the commercials from Griffith but had dropped off by the time I did the detailed band scan report.

This high is as fat as Paul Vautin, so not surprised that there is inland tropo.

It’s been very consistent long haul tropo too, as it was around for all of yesterday and still present as of this morning.

Given that we’re close to the solstice now, you’ll probably find that tropo hangs around to some extent all day. The Sun isn’t strong enough to completely disturb the inversion layer. You can even get all day fogs in the Riverina at this time of year under a high such as this.
