AM and FM DX (2015-2025)

Seems to be quite general in terms of inland tropo. Been getting my usual suspects (Riverland and Adelaide FMs) along with ABC Radio National on 103.3 from Mount Gambier, abiet fading in and out.

Getting Forster and Port Macquarie with RDS:

Did you confirm Goldfields FM my thought would been Smart FM from Swan Hill

Yes I heard an on-air ID twice. I also wondered about Smart FM until I heard the ID.

@ninkeon58 will the recording function be reinstated on your server? This is one example where it would have been good to have a recording for posterity. Thanks.

Newcastle at semi-local strength on TVCL North at the moment on both hit106.9 and Triple M.

Wollongong TV wiped out in Sydney and perhaps parts of the Illawarra. (Can anyone in the Illawarra with their antenna aimed at Knights Hill confirm if their Illawarra signal is wiped out? Cheers! - Paging @Zampakid and @sj2450)

Even though I have the recording plugin enabled on my servers, I usually just use OBS to screen record with sound. That way you have the RDS decode for posterity also.

Maybe it’s worth putting 100.7 on the Scanner blacklist until the RDS PI code issue is resolved. As it looks like there’s Es every day from Mildura to Rockhampton on FM List .

Pushed an update through FMList which should eventually resolve this

Question for @Radiohead since he is enjoying Las Venturas/Sin City at the moment.

How does the TEF handle the IBOC hash over there? Assuming you’re suitably armed of course.

Yes I’ve taken my TEF over, but only had brief plays with it… hard to tell if any i/f is hotel room hash or IBOC hash, but i haven’t noticed any big issues.

Yeah, you need to get out of town somewhere and test it. Maybe Hoover Dam if you want to feel awkward

Lol, I was put there yesterday on a bus trip but taking the TEF was not a thought that came to mind!

Its in a bit of valley, reception probably wouldn’t be much good anyway.

Looking to buy one of these TEF radios, but there are so many on AliExpress. Can somebody give me some direct links?

Thanks!

For some reason it’s still logging it even though I’ve added it to the blacklist. I’ll raise an issue with the developer.

You also need to set your Scanner config to blacklist scanning mode, if you haven’t done that.

It will be interesting to see how much havoc TC Alfred wreaks on broadcasting infrastructure in SEQ and Northern NSW. For those that manage to escape the power outages there may be some rare DX opportunities.

I still remember the trials that @gordo92 went through during the Gold Coast derecho event. You may be in for something similar again. Diesel gennys at the ready.

There is a guarantee radio and TV services will be knocked out, unless they have backup generators. Community radio stations will suffer the most, with many not carrying generators because they probably can’t afford them.

This has led to many community stations being knocked off-air by disastrous weather events. The Pulse 94.7 FM Geelong (community station) was knocked off-air after cyclonic-like heavy rain, hailstones, winds and thunderstorms hit the regional city last month. So this latest event is putting Northern Rivers NSW/SE QLD community stations into panic mode. Those that do make it back on air ASAP will perhaps have back-up generators at the ready.

Don’t expect the commercial FMs to be off-air for too long. They have back-up generators and will run back-up tapes when a severe event like this occurs.

Spent today checking sites and generator reliability today for major sites around the Darling Downs today, and will be heading to more sites tomorrow
The Brisbane guys have been doing the same for sites that don’t have remote gennie monitoring
