If they are always just twilight WA matches and before public holiday Mondays sure - but similar to what we’ve just seen with Thursday night, as soon as they crack open a door they want to bust it down.
A number of additional details about the fixture were revealed on 7News Adelaide tonight, including that the first showdown will be on Saturday Night in Round 9 - Port home game.
Was also revealed tonight that the Crows and (presumably) the Hawks would play in the first ever Friday night game at Launceston’s York Park in Round 14. Hawks will also feature in 7 primetime games across the first 15 rounds.
Well that’s one way to get around the Super Saturday first 8 rounds. Latest first showdown ever though.
I personally doubt the AFL would allow a showdown to be shown on delay - would be an uproar from fans, along with the current Government who pushed for local games to remain on FTA.
An update from City of Bunbury:
Dreamtime at the G is moving to Friday night next year, possibly to ensure Fox can have the Saturday to themselves.
Full fixture up to Round 16 + matchups and venues for Rounds 17 onwards have been published:

Appearing on a new episode of Mumbrella’s one-on-one podcast series, the club’s head of brand, Dominique Burgess, walked through the entire process which started early last year and the many challenges that came along the way.
Burgess said it was crucial to listen to the fans throughout the rebrand, who she believes had grown tired of the ‘Challenge Accepted’ theme introduced in 2019, as it “no longer represented where we were as a club”.
However, the feedback – particularly from a passionate fan base – might not always be constructive, which Burgess said was a major lesson for the marketing team.
Poor move IMO, end of an era It’s been on Saturdays since its inception 20 years ago and was always on Ten, later Seven. It gave the timeslot it’s own marquee match (second biggest and longest running to Anzac Day) and also made Dreamtime stand out more compared to the usual Friday night blockbuster, with more build-up on the Friday and Saturday afternoon.
I reckon both pushed for it. Foxtel wouldn’t have wanted Seven airing it especially given the large Melbourne audience. But Seven probably wanted it moved anyway, given essentially no Saturday nights anymore and to increase its ratings, as Saturdays rate lower and Dreamtime has been trending down for some years now, once upon a time Dreamtime would outrate or go very close to beating the Friday game.
Seven technically would’ve had rights, doesn’t the contract state “except marquee matches such as Dreamtime”?
Oh well, anyway… Wonder how this’ll impact the traditional ‘Long Walk’ and build-up, also landing on a working day now.
It does - I guess they negotiated to move it so Fox can have another Saturday to themselves, and possibly to air something like an extra Sunday Night match. From now on, expect the only marquee matches on Saturdays to be finals, ANZAC Day or ANZAC Eve matches. Either way, it’s the end of an era - biggest Saturday Night match of the season as you mentioned.
Also to avoid clashing with a potential federal election.
Wayne Carey has been left out of a video celebration of North Melbourne’s centenary year in the VFL/AFL.
The video includes highlights from the who’s who of the club’s greatest champions, with cutaways of current youngster Zane Duursma showing off the new kit.
Iconic moments from modern day stars Brent Harvey, Ben Cunnington, Drew Petrie, Daniel Wells and even Cam Zurhaar are featured, as are ‘90s heroes David King, Adam Simpson and Glenn Archer, and older legends like Ron Barassi, Phil Krakouer and Malcolm Blight.
Carey, meantime, features for less than one second on the premiership dais in amongst his 1999 teammates, holding the cup, before it cuts away again.
Also excluded were longtime club captain Wayne Schimmelbusch and two-time premiership coach, Denis Pagan.
