Wow, this news has come through in the last few minutes. Expect some very stringent security searches at AFL matches for a while.
How did they get passed security?
I think they must have snuck in as security staff packed up the barriers and dismantled the sensors at MCG entrances.
The MCG implemented new security measures during the 2023/24 cricket season. Hand held metal detectors were replaced by demountable, tall sensors at the start of the metal barriers. Everyone had to walk through the sensors, before a security staff determined if they would be subject to a further bag search.
Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Therese Fitzgerald said the men were both on bail at the time.
âIt is known that one of the offenders is a prohibited person and should not have been carrying a firearm,â she said.
âThis is an isolated incident with individuals who were known.â
Melbourne Cricket Club chief executive Stuart Clark said the incident was âextremely disappointing and upsetting.â
He said there was a breakdown in the security process.
Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan said the two men engaged in âabsolutely unacceptable behaviourâ, but she also called for a review of security at the venue.
UPDATE: AAP reports: Roxburgh Park man Omar Salma, 21, faced court on Friday morning and was remanded in custody after being charged with being a person prohibited from possessing a firearm, possessing ammunition without licence and committing an indictable offence while on bail. Broadmeadows man Mohamad Noori, 27, faced court later in the day and will next appear on May 5, on six charges including possessing a loaded firearm and failing to appear on bail.
âOvernight the MCG worked to identify how the two men were able to enter the venue, which concluded that security personnel failed to do a thorough follow up search of the patrons after an alert from the entry point screening system."
Wait until itâs Geelong v hawthorn in a few weeks time.
This is interesting
Every other state has had there hand up for a while now, the Tassies might as well join the distant queue.
Adelaide forward Darcy Fogarty has had a can of Cooperâs beer tattooed on his bicep ahead of the AFLâs Gather Round as part of a paid promotion with the South Australian-based brewery.
Fogarty will wear the new ink during the Crowsâ clash with Geelong on Thursday night.
What would the two states be for State of Origin?
I think there is talks of 5 teams, VIC, SA, WA, VIC, QLD/NSW/TAS and indigenous all stars. It seems a bit messy to me
I do like the inclusion of all states though.

I think some of these fans need to curb their behaviour but the player (for my team) and any other team shouldnât bite back.
