So much for sold out crowds? Doesnât look full.
Many patrons will be staying in the concourse or air conditioned rooms inside Optus Stadium.
Also, each quarter is 25 minutes long like a pre season match, with the clock only stopping after a goal has been kicked, or an on-field injury (as we have seen with Victoriaâs Jacob Weitering stretchered off after he was crunched by WAâs Mitch Georgiades in the first term). In a regular AFL match, each quarter is 20 minutes long plus time on.
This is too hot for footy IMO ![]()
Hot weather in Perth would account that .
Official attendance was 58,141 - a near capacity crowd!
Optus Stadium continues to have a shocking playing surface. Patches everywhere
Victoria prevailed by 24 points, 18.17 (125) to WA 15.11 (101).
Great competitive game. The Sandgropers kicked the first two goals before Victoria steadied. The biggest match lead never exceeded five goals as the home side made the charge several times, and only trailed by six points in the final term, but the Vics held on.
Both sides had several injuries, the most serious being Weitering who was admitted to hospital for observation.
Update: Ryan Daniels said Weitering had been cleared of spinal injury but the shoulder is a concern.
Jesse Hogan (five goals) won the Graham Moss Medal as WAâs best player of the match. His GWS teammate Lachie Ash won the E.J. Whitten Medal as Victoriaâs best on ground with 25 disposals and 498 m gained.
Great game tonight. Be interesting to see final numbers tomorrow to see if itâs a success.
58,000 attendance surely already tells you that right?
Well, not if the TV audience ends up being less than 100k in Melbourne, no.
But I think that is unlikely, although Winter Olympics canât not have had some impact, especially with another gold.
I think 200k on HSV would be minimum pass park.
Iâm not sure if tv audiences are the true metric of a success though, especially at this time of the year. Having a sellout for a match that means little is huge
Nine will no doubt be happy about that, especially with the medal falling better in Perthâs primetime
I think it shouldâve been held in Victoria, however understand there was WA funding
The SA Premier is crying foul because âSA shd get to host the game - only fair its shared aroundââŚ
Seems a bit off given Gather Round is not moving out of SA.
Lets do an NRL and have State of Origin in Las Vegas. ![]()
The premier of SA is very one note. Sport itâs very important to him. However, we canât call it state of origin if it doesnât involve everyone. I say next year have both games in WA. Victoria v SA WA v Allies and then the following week have the final in Tasmania.
Winner stays on is the best format - so Vic hosting SA next year, if SA win, they host WA the year after, if they lose, Vic hosts WA.
Yep, stays on and gets to host. So next year at the MCG (ground availability permitting) makes most sense
They could have 4 teams.
Team 1 = Victoria
Team 2 = South Australia
Team 3 = Western Australia
Team 4 = All Stars (QLD, NSW, TAS, NT)
