AFL Coverage

While listening to Wide World of Sports on 3AW this evening, I heard Anthony Hudson mentioning that 3AW football now has a presence on YouTube. So I took a look just then and saw the YouTube channel. It began during last year’s finals series before taking a four month hiatus. New videos appeared again from February, including every episode of Eddie and Jimmy podcast for this season, as well as news, highlights and opinion direct from the commentary box.

Tonight’s Sydney derby will be broadcast on Triple M DAB+ in Sydney, due to NRL coverage on FM radio.

Also, there is no listing for North Melbourne v Richmond (1.10pm AEST Sunday) in the schedule, even though the AFL broadcast guide says that Triple M will cover the game.

UPDATE 19/4

The Roos-Tigers match will be broadcast on ABC Local Radio in SA, NT, WA and Tasmania. Victorian listeners will have to tune into ABC Listen app or AFL app to hear the match.

ABC Local Radio and digital radio in Victoria will get first half of North Melbourne v Richmond before crossing to the MCG for the full commentary of Melbourne v Brisbane.

Triple M’s broadcast guide has listed Perth will be taking Geelong v North Melbourne this Saturday, rather than West Coast v Richmond, which I think is an error, as the AFL broadcast guide shows Triple M Perth will broadcast Eagles v Tigers, which starts at 2.15pm Perth time, 20 minutes before Cats v Roos.

Also, Erin Phillips is on the commentary team for Gold Coast v GWS this Sunday night. She has been covering matches in SE Queensland for Seven and Triple M, since she and her family moved to GC following her appointment as the Suns’ general manager of women’s football.

Why radio footy coverage knows no boundaries for Zoe Scutter

At the start of this year’s AFL season, Triple M Footy’s Match Day Producer Zoe Scutter told SCA’s Head of Sports Content Ewan Giles she wanted to see the game from a different angle.

Now Zoe – former lead producer of Triple’s Rush Hour with JB & Billy – has officially begun her apprenticeship as an AFL boundary rider.

Brisbane v Carlton on Friday night will be broadcast in full into Victoria on ABC, 3AW and Triple M, rather than Port Adelaide v Western Bulldogs, even though the Blues are second last on the ladder.

On Sunday, ABC in Victoria will have full coverage of Melbourne v West Coast, while Richmond v Adelaide will be broadcast on 3AW and Triple M.

Also according to Triple M’s schedule, Gold Coast will get Geelong v Collingwood on Saturday rather than the twilight match between the Suns and St Kilda.

With support from Triple M, the AFL is delighted to extend its in language broadcast offering to Yolŋu Radio, ensuring the game is accessible to more First Nations people during the dedicated round. The broadcasts will reach six major communities and 12 homelands across Northeast Arnhem Land, as well as audiences in Darwin and Palmerston, allowing listeners to hear the game in Yolŋu Matha on Yolŋu Radio.

The Sir Doug Nicholls Round broadcasts will begin in Round 10, with Yolŋu Radio returning to call Friday night’s match in Darwin between the Gold Coast SUNS and Port Adelaide, before the commentary team travels to Melbourne to broadcast the annual Dreamtime at the ’G clash between Richmond and Essendon in Round 11.

ABC Radio’s coverage of Brisbane v Geelong tonight will have different arrangements. The analogue radio broadcast will not begin until 8.30pm AEST (match starts at 7.30pm), due to the ABC’s coverage of Angus Taylor’s Budget reply and the analysis show that follows. If you want to hear the full call, you must use the AFL button on ABC Listen app or online.
