2000 Brownlow Medallist Shane Woewodin and former Geelong premiership defender Harry Taylor are in the ABC commentary box at Optus Stadium tonight for the Demons-Cats preliminary final.

Lachy Reid, Tania Armstrong and The Beast will also be part of Triple M Perth’s commentary team for the GF.
It is believed to be the last time Dennis Cometti calls an AFL match on radio.

I believe it’s Dennis Cometti’s son who works on Triple M Perth footy too. He had a career as a wrestler nicknamed “The Beast”.

Dennis’s last call until a station makes another offer he cant’ refuse to return. We’ve all seen this before with talent.

He’s been doing a game a week (the one in Perth) at Triple M since he left TV in 2016. Not like this is a once off. The man is 72 and has been on the slow winddown for 6 years now. He’s clearly not coming back unless there’s another GF in perth in 2022.

Triple M coverage for the 2021 AFL Grand Final - Dennis Cometti’s final AFL radio call will only be heard in WA. In other states Mark Howard and Luke Darcy will call play-by-play.
Triple M and ABC Radio will begin their match coverage at 5pm AEST, followed by 3AW at 6pm AEST. Each station will also have its own preview show from midday AEST.
ABC Radio Perth will provide the GF commentary for Local Radio stations around Australia and Radio Australia internationally.

Appears that SEN still has to do their own Grand Final coverage due to the rights deal. Nice to have a Melbourne and Perth centric call.

The 2022 AFLW season starts tomorrow (January 7) when St Kilda take on Richmond at Frankston in Melbourne’s south. ABC Radio will broadcast around three matches each week, and SEN/AFL Nation one match each week.
EDIT: according to SEN’s Live Sport Guide, St Kilda v Richmond will also be broadcast in New Zealand on SENZ.

How does SEN stay viable with such programming? NZ has as much AFL interest there as the diehard league followers do in Qld or NSW.
