They covered Monday in the previous round but didnât list it online. It looks like itâs the same this round as theyâre making mention on the air of coverage of every match.
Quentin Hull said during his call of Gold Coast-Western Bulldogs clash tonight that ABC Radio would broadcast matches during the 20-day bonanza starting next Wednesday, July 29, but some wouldnât air on analogue radio due to program commitments. He reminded fans to listen to those matches on Grandstand Digital or via the AFL mobile app.
Iâd be interested to see how many matches ABC does put on local radio due to program commitments. Iâd say all WA/SA matches will be on Local Radio in their states. Swans/Suns/Lions/Giants matches on NewsRadio, etc.
With ABC, you very rarely have any bias, even though it takes the local stationâs call rather than suffer the expense of sending a Melbourne crew to Perth or Adelaide. But a Melbourne based guy like Nicholson or Clinch will get mixed in sometimes.
Just heard new promo by David Astle on ABC Melbourne today, saying his evening show will continue on digital radio on Monday-Thursday nights, when ABC Melbourne broadcasts AFL matches on analogue radio.
3AW is skipping this Thursday nightâs match between Melbourne and Port Adelaide according to the stationâs broadcast schedule. It is not covering Sundayâs matches between Gold Coast and GWS, nor between Fremantle and Collingwood.
UPDATE 3/8: 3AW is not broadcasting tonightâs game between Port Adelaide and Western Bulldogs nor Wednesdayâs clash between Geelong and North Melbourne, according to AFL website. 3AW is covering Richmond v Brisbane Lions on Tuesday night.
Both SEN and Triple M are covering every match during this round but 3AW are skipping Wednesdayâs doubleheader (Geelong v North Melbourne and Adelaide v Melbourne).
Itâs because the AFL wants to control audio rights, thus forcing radio stations to provide their coverage to the mobile app as part of the radio rights agreement.
Just more those in a car in NSW, it is a bit awkward to use the app to listen if you have carplay/android auto. You can always pull over touch your screen and do it that way so its a first world issue. If I was AFL, Iâd invest in Carplay/Android auto or just be like the NRL in this instance.
