Triple M Brisbane is airing the Lions game right now. No doubt they’ll switch straight to NRL at the conclusion. Not sure about the regionals, but I imagine they will also follow.

7.55pm: As soon as the Lions team song played, NRL stations taking the AFL faded out the team song and went straight to the NRL game commentary. Only missed the first 2 minutes.

Corbin Middlemas hosting today’s ABC Radio Sunday AFL review show live from Lavington Sports Ground in Albury this afternoon, ahead of Ovens and Murray Football League grand final between Yarrawonga and Albury. That match will be broadcast on ABC Listen app nationally, as well as ABC Local Radio into Victoria and Tasmania from 2.30pm AEST.

It will also broadcast SANFL GF across South Australia and WAFL GF throughout Western Australia this afternoon.

Shane McInnes and Tony Leonard calling Essendon v Fremantle this afternoon, they aren’t B-grade commentators.

The core members of 3AW’s AFLW commentary team is: host Melissa Fistric (musician and producer/host on ABC Radio Gippsland on weekdays), former Carlton AFLW coach Damien Keeping, and 3AW breakfast producer Amelia Fuller as boundary reporter. Expert commentators include Carlton player Abbie McKay, and Melbourne premiership player Libby Birch, who is also part of the station’s AFL commentary team.

Very interesting choice that the ABC has gone for the O&M grand final rather than the VFL grand final across the whole state.

Travel can’t be a factor as the VFL is at Princes Park in Melbourne while the O&M is a nearly 4 hour trip north to Albury.

Very strange. Unless this was a deliberate jab at being snubbed for the rights to broadcast the VFL?

Who is broadcasting the Brownlow Medal on radio?

SEN has this betting oriented coverage on 1116, it’s nonsense as they don’t even relay the audio of votes being read out.

SEN Fanatic on DAB+ and the app looks to be a different, better coverage, have just switched on so waiting to see if they relay the audio of the count properly. It’s also being relayed on SENQ Brisbane so if you have a smart speaker you can ask for SEN 693 to get that coverage.
Edit: yep, the SEN Fanatic/SENQ coverage is relaying the audio of the count.

Interesting Leigh Matthews won’t be doing special comments on 3AW. Can only assume he’s slowly transitioning into retirement. Last year AW had Jimmy, Llordo and Leigh all doing special comments.

Leigh will still be part of 3AW’s pre-match coverage (from 10am AEST) but after that he will be watching the match in the stands.
He is spending all this week in Melbourne. He went to the Brownlow Medal on Monday night and was in the 3AW studio for his weekly appearance on Wide World of Sports yesterday.

He’s involved in Seven’s coverage too:

Maybe Leigh will present the Premiership Cup to Chris Fagan?

Nah he won’t get the opportunity…

The AFL confirmed today that if Brisbane win, Leigh would present the premiership cup to Chris Fagan. If Collingwood win, it will be Peter Moore.

Leigh could’ve done it for both Clubs really

Father to son is better though
