The AFL website has a facelift ahead of the 2023 fixture release at the end of this week.
Getting released tomorrow
The AFL will stream SANFL menās matches for the first time this year. Last year there were available through SANFLās own subscription service. That arrangement will continue under the new deal.
The AFLW website has undergone substantial changes to coincide with the launch of the 2023 season next week. Firstly, it has dropped its domain (womens.afl) and is now part of the bigger AFL website. Second, it now shares the same look and font as AFL website, rather than a bolder, black font it used in the past two years.
Phoebe McWilliams, who retired at the end of 2023 season after eight seasons with GWS, Geelong and Carlton, is now a reporter for AFLW.

Herald Sun reports Xander McGuire (Eddieās son), who recently joined 7News Melbourne as sports reporter, has picked up another gig, as co-host of The Round So Far on AFL website with Kate McCarthy for 2025. Airing each Saturday night, the duo and rotating panellists will cover the round in footy so far.
Kane Cornes to film new Sunday night AFL show from his pool shed
Just when you thought it might not be possible, Kane Cornes is taking it to the next level.
The SEN commentator and Channel 7 expert is rapidly becoming Australiaās version of Stephen A. Smith and Pat McAfee ā the two biggest, and most controversial, sports broadcasters in the States.
Cornes has taken over from Eddie McGuire as Mr Everywhere in the media and heās channelling his American idols with a Sunday night show, āFirst Up with Kane Cornesā which is being filmed from his pool shed.
As soon as the siren sounds on the final game of the weekend, afl.com.au will go live to Cornesā Adelaide home where he will spew out his thoughts on what has transpired over the previous four days.
Co-host Sarah Olle will be back in the studio in Melbourne with her job to fire up Cornes (which we know isnāt very hard) about all the controversies of the round.
Itās not as though Kane gets many other outlets to be able to express his opinions. ![]()
Chad Wingard and Kate McCarthy, who are members of Sevenās AFL commentary team for 2025, have joined the AFL website.
And in a special treat, those in Adelaide on Thursday can come along to see the team from Gettable and AFL Daily live and in person at the Maccaās Footy Festival.
The AFLW app underwent a facelift this week, ahead of the competitionās 10th season. It now has a similar look and feel as the main AFL app, although the two apps have different base colour: AFL is dark blue and AFLW is purple.
AFL cuts media jobs and closes main studio in pivot to outsourcing
An email sent to staff in the AFLās media team on Wednesday made clear the league would decommission āStudio Aā at AFL House in Docklands, leading to redundancies among the production team.
Multiple sources told this masthead the most recent redundancies numbered at least 10 and several other staffers had left the media and commercial team since the menās grand final in September, but the AFL would not confirm a number.
It is understood front-facing journalists and presenters are not impacted by the job losses.
The direction shift comes as part of a pivot to using external content stemming from āstrategic partnersā to grow the AFLās reach including content creators and outside broadcasters.
The restructure of the media team comes as long-time respected staffer David Grossman resigned from the AFL and will depart in the New Year.
The staff email, seen by this masthead, from the AFLās executive GM of customer and commercial Bec Haagsma outlines that a newly formed āAFL Digital Networkā will steer league-produced content in a new direction.
This new network will be led by AFL head of content Ed Bowman with a remit āaimed at generating and growing fandom across our owned channelsā, Haagsma wrote.
