And Radio Today:
Unless I’m mistaken, that will make them the only Melbourne breakfast show starting before 6am. Maybe to cater to the Mornington Peninsula audience who are up earlier to commute into Melbourne.
The More Music Breakfast show with Mike and Jen on Smooth 91.5 starts at 5:30am as well.
The official site is now active at http://www.3mp.com.au
Back to cover their Mornington Peninsula Roots.
3AW breakfast starts at 5:30.
3mp studios:
8C/18 Albert Road
Sth Melbourne
That’s ACE HQ from memory. Pacific Star is in Southbank
Is ACE HQ’s big enough for 3mp studios?
Depends what they retained from the former Radio Training Institute. At the moment it seems likely that shows will be done remotely from other ACE markets (breakfast from Traralgon, for instance) since the company has had, what, three weeks from purchase to broadcast?
Time to guess what is the official first song played on 3mp at 6pm tonight will be ?
Ignore that unofficial test stream from yesterday
ABC Melbourne breakfast also starts at 5.30am.
Their would be a lot of studios in regional Victoria that are under uterlised. Is their any reason why they would have to have expensive Melbourne stuidos for a Am music station.
Will be interesting to see the the music (and if they share logs with the regional AM stations) and if any shows are relayed into regional Victoria. I want Less 3aw and more music
I really don’t get why the 3MP breakfast show starting at 5.30am is such a big deal.
Sure, 6am is the most common time for a breakfast show to start but there are others (whether in Melbourne or elsewhere) which start at 5.30am or even 5am.
Apart from voice talent, I expect 3MP to operate as a stand-alone station from the other Ace stations.
The preview of the music log is classic 3MP. When they claim “3MP is back”, they mean no surprises- it’s as it sounded before it started getting mucked around with.
Could Ace do more with 3MP than just play music?
Maybe, but I expect that’s years away.
Sooner or later it’ll occur to them they could roll out their own talk programs across Victoria, particularly in the 9am til noon slot (same as Grant stations do out of Launceston’s LAFM across Northern Tasmania)
Unlikely is Ace Radio turning on 3AW with some sort of 24/7 talk rival. 3MP is about as likely to take on 3AW as 2SM is to take on 2GB.
Hybrid formats are risky but not impossible (arguably Triple M is a hybrid format of talk, sport and music).
3MP is in with a chance, if only because Smooth has drifted into that 25-49 demographic space where “easy listening” are songs like Material Girl by Madonna.
While Magic is now whatever 2UE needs to be, especially as 2CH is expected to vacate the music space for it.
Is the 1377 AM signal much stronger in the Mornington Peninsula, than around the Melbourne CBD?
It should be, that was its primary licence area and IIRC its AM transmitter is in Rowville, SE of Melbourne.
I gather the DAB signal comes from Mount Dandenong?
Yes I believe that’s correct. The main DAB+ signals for all capital cities are from the same site as commercial FM and TV, if I’m not mistaken.
Probably Take That - Back For Good
Being a Sydney guy, was it meant to be a 2WS station which had a difference license area to the other AM stations? Then it just because part of the Melbourne radio licence area like 2WS did in Sydney.
The previous incarnation of 3MP had a hybrid talk/music morning program with Glen Ridge for a while (kind of like Jeremy Vine’s BBC Radio 2 program). The new 3MP could eventually try and do a similar type of program?
