Shakespeare and Hathaway - Season 4

image

From Saturday 16 September 7.30pm

Frank and Lu are drawn into Stratford’s Silicon Valley when Spider calls upon their help to expose a mole within tech company Forosa.

The oddly-matched Stratford-upon-Avon-based sleuths return for more picturesque and whimsical mysteries brimming with wit and rural charm.

In the first episode, Spider (Darren Evans) calls upon Frank (Mark Benton) and Lu’s (Jo Joyner) expertise at his new workplace when Forosa tech company, run by Bertie, (Jonno Davies) comes under attack.
With a new app launch only days away, the PIs work fast and soon discover there’s a mole in the company that needs flushing out.

Meanwhile, they also need to help Spider win the woman of his dreams – coder, Helena (Naomi Yang).
The rest of the Forosa team - owner Bertie, his dad Jacob (Charles Dale) and coding genius Dean (Arthur Hughes) are rocked by the revelations that follow – but the unmasking of the mole is not the end of the story as things take a deadly turn.

Helena becomes prime suspect in a murder at the company, but Spider is adamant of her innocence and persuades Frank and Lu to reinvestigate.

The Whiteley Art Scandal

image

Tuesday 19 September 8:30 PM

Premiering on Tuesday 19 September at 8:30pm on ABC TV and ABC iview, The Whiteley Art Scandal tells the riveting story of the greatest art fraud case in Australian history.

Broadcast as part of ABC’s Arts Week, this fascinating documentary takes a rare, behind the scenes look at the glamorous and high-stakes world of art dealing.

In 2009, car salesman turned art dealer, Steve Nasteski, buys what he believes to be a genuine painting by acclaimed Australian artist Brett Whiteley. But when suspicions are raised about its authenticity, a chain of events leads to a sensational trial in Melbourne. Well-known art dealer Peter Gant and conservator Aman Siddique stand accused of creating and fraudulently bringing to market not one, but three, fake Whiteley paintings.

At first it seems an open and shut case – but all is not as it seems and an explosive piece of evidence turns the case against the two accused men on its head.

With twists worthy of a thriller and extraordinary access to key players including Peter Gant and Wendy Whiteley, The Whiteley Art Scandal throws up questions about the integrity of our cultural heritage and the unregulated nature of the art market, and asks if it’s time for the Australian police to establish specialised art fraud squads.

From 18-24 September, the ABC will celebrate the rich diversity of the arts from around the country with ABC Arts Week. Delve into the ABC Arts collection on ABC iview, your destination for premium Australian arts content at https://iview.abc.net.au/category/arts

Season 8 final is a better description. Season 9 will air in 2024.

Travel series Bill Bailey’s Wild Western Australia (4×60’) has been pre-bought by Channel 4 in the UK after a green light from ABC in Australia. The show sees Bailey travel along the world’s longest state coastline, passing though through five climate zones along the way.

It is made for the ABC and Channel 4 by Perpetual Entertainment.

Bill Bailey was at Margaret River in June, filming the show.

It makes sense these days to make the distinction between a series and a season. However, Brits have always used the term series for a season of a show. We did that in Australia too until we started being influenced by America.

Screen Australia still uses it and I so does the ABC, even in their press releases and promos but it can be inconsistent.

Grand Designs House of the Year

image

From Thursday 14 September 8.30pm

Kevin McCloud looks at the spectacular homes in the running to win the prestigious Royal Institute British Architects House of the Year award 2022.

EPISODE 1: HARD TO BUILD HOUSES

Kevin McCloud sets off on nationwide journey to explore the spectacular homes in the running for the 2022 Royal Institute of British Architects House of the Year award. Each week he’ll exclusively reveal which houses the RIBA judges have put through to the shortlist, and in the final programme announce the winner of this prestigious prize. Kevin is joined by three co-presenters: architect Damion Burrows, design expert Michelle Ogundehin, and - new to the series - conservation architect Natasha Huq. In this episode, they visit five hard-to build houses battling it out for a place on the shortlist – all breathtaking buildings that stop you in your tracks.

They include: a playful pink beach house built to withstand fierce winds and sandstorms on the south coast; a painstakingly meticulous faithful renovation of a 1960s home in Derbyshire; an extreme DIY eco-home in Stirlingshire, years in the making; a dizzyingly difficult to build reimagining of a redbrick house in Dorset, that pushed its builders to their limit; and a London new-build that hurdled challenge after challenge from planning to the excavation of the vast basement.

Sherwood

image

From Friday 22 September 8.30pm

Detective Constable Sargent Ian St Clair is called to investigate a tragic and unexpected murder in an ex-mining town as news of the crime threatens to inflame historic tensions.

From multi-award-winning writer James Graham comes a politically pertinent thriller about a community torn apart by two shocking killings.

A complex political past means that the industrial villages around Sherwood Forest have often been divided communities. But when two local residents are killed, old wounds are re-opened and the town is engulfed in tension and fear.

Soon everyone is under suspicion, neighbours are turning on neighbours, and no one can be trusted – especially not the authorities. It’s down to local police chief Ian and London met police officer Kevin to solve the case and unravel the lies. Can they put their own troubled history aside and help this fractured community heal?

Drawn from real-life events, Sherwood is a shockingly relevant thriller about a burgeoning lack of trust in local police and national government – and the way that supposedly long-buried political tensions can resurface to devastating effect.
