And still no 24/7 streaming channel for rage to fill the gap with all other music television services showcasing local Australian talent both FTA and Subscription long gone.
The Australian music industry is crying out for exposure for local talent that even rage used to provide as well when they had all Saturday morning to themselves and started around 11:30pm on Friday evenings, but now relegated to near 2am starts on Friday nights with the week’s new releases.
They will be changing the branding sooner than that.
Why not revert to ABC2 and ABC3 so as to give them the freedom to program whatever content they want without an expensive genre-based re-brand?
The channel with extra
The channel with the X factor
The channel where x marks the spot
The channel with x times the entertainment
The channel with everything to the maX
X is a toxic brand these days thanks to Musk and Twitter.
I don’t disagree with that, though I have said in the past that they could do ABC2 as “ABC Too”. Would have been better than stupid ABC TV Plus, anyway.
Look at the branding BBC and ITV accomplish with numbered channels and it can identify the channel by the style to tell the audience what it is without a clunky name like “Entertains” which also says fuck all
Had a closer look at the trailers for the two channels and saw that ABC Family has all the ABC Kids and ABC Me content together. So basically, they won’t be running children’s and teen programs against each other any more. They’ve emphasised in the blurb that children stream content from iView, so in effect they will be scaling back children’s programs on broadcast television.
Meanwhile, ABC Entertains will be running all the overseas repeats that were on ABC and ABC TV Plus but for more hours in the day. Not great.
I liked the period with the ABC 2 initial one (with the giant 2) and the red giant 3 as above so it was clear it was with ABC but also not completely uniform like when they did the ABC1, ABC2, ABC3… period.
ABC4Kids along that time was ok as well but that would imply it would be on 24 which is of course taken by the news but I think kids stuff needs to actually remain on 22 because many of those watching are just learning to use a remote control when parents are still in bed or whatever and so it’s easy to teach 2 and 2 rather than 2 separate buttons.
Not a fan of these new names. Feels like they’ve had more rebrands and channel launches than any other network. 7two, 9Go, 7mate and 9Gem have all essentially stayed the same since launch. SBS had a couple of cracks but Viceland has been around a while and Ten have had a few but not as many as FlyTV, 2, ABC2, ABC Comedy, ABC TV Plus and any others in between.
