ABC operations

Labor and Greens both taking it further.

Nothing wrong with Turnbull saying he disagreed with what a journalist said on the ABC. It is a totally different matter and an abuse of power to demand that journalist be sacked, if that is what happened.

Sounds like Milne is the reason the ABCs attempts at “balance” come across as so hamfisted if the half a billion line was used on this occasion. Can totally see similar threats of withdrawn funding if anything considered anti-government got this treatment.

I think they sacked the wrong person

Turns out sacking the ABC chair is a bit tricky too

So this is all getting rather messy for many people around at different levels. Is there a possibility though that Ms Guthrie could get her job back if Mr Milne is forced from the board and an appeal is won? That could make things awkward for staff like John Faine and those who tweeted after the original sacking.

Think it’s become clear that both Guthrie and Milne’s positions were/are untenable

Agreed, both should be gone.

The ABC board have asked their chairman Justin Milne to consider his future at the public broadcaster following a crisis meeting this morning.

The Australian understands Mr Milne, a former business partner of Malcolm Turnbull, has been asked to at least step down while a government inquiry considers his handling of government complaints about a news report by ABC journalist Emma Alberici.

Alternately, Mr Milne may choose to resign from the board as he digests this morning’s resolution by his board.

Morrison government suggests ABC chairman Justin Milne should consider his position

It sure hasn’t seem like it…

ABC says it will “play an interview with him in the next 10 minutes or so”.

This is how ABC News Channel broke into rolling news coverage to report resignation plus 12 noon bulletin.

SNOW also covering story - just not as up to date as ABC
