It is absolutely not the right decision for ABC to make. It’s a dereliction of their journalistic integrity even. Terry has always been a rather outspoken journalist, always spoken truth to power no matter what side of the political aisle they’re on and ABC is ONLY making this decision to get ahead of Trump’s wrath towards media coverage he views to be unfavorable towards him. He’s sued ABC last year for calling him a rapist and is suing CBS currently for billions of dollars alleging that they edited an interview to make his opponent seem more favorable. Both networks have recently made questionable ethics moves to seemingly appease Trump.
One only has to look back to his tweets or stint as a Nightline anchor to see Terry’s sharp but honest critiques of the Obama and Biden administrations as well, and his criticisms of Trump 1.0. ABC never felt inclined to remove him from air then but somehow we’re to believe their journalistic standards have changed for the better which is why they couldn’t stand for this and terminated a fine journalist? Sure.
As we’ve seen with countless examples, capitulation and pre-subservience to Trump rarely ends up well. It only results in more demand for the same. I don’t get why anyone would suggest this move helps rather than tarnishes ABC’s (already dwindling) integrity and credibility. To hell with the mouse’s house.
Doesn’t make it right for them to be able to flout whatever garbage and get a pat on the back whilst the others get a ‘tougher’ treatment because they’re afraid of Trump.
At a time when media trust and perhaps more importantly media literacy is at an all time low, the traditional media cannot afford to have journalists offer partisan takes no matter how much you or I might agree with them.
The role of journalist has been blurred so much in recent times - but his tweet went beyond what could be reasonably considered as commentary or analysis and to be honest was a personal attack that you can’t really do in his role - which is different from a partisan host of a Fox show or even an ABC product where opinions are encouraged.
If a journalist did the same in Australia, they’d also walk the plank.
He’s an excellent journalist and I’ve followed him for years - but I genuinely do think ABC made the right call. The lesson once again, is never tweet.
The comedian recently clarified whether he agrees with the news network’s decision not to renew the reporter’s contract over a since-deleted social media post criticizing President Donald Trump and his top aide Stephen Miller.
“Of course not. So stupid. No, for God’s sake,” said on The Weekly Show podcast, calling ABC News “a f—ing joke.”
“Literally every day on Fox News they’re taking stuff out of context or their people are saying utterly vicious things about democratic politicians. The entire thing is because ABC clings to this facade that they somehow exist in a bubble outside all of this.
All of them are like it because it’s a digital screen. Agree though, it’s over the top. Likely they will tweak it like the view did after a little while
I think the set in general looks too beige and gray (needs more light blues), but the side screens look good. The reflective floor needs to go - it looks like they’re in a flood sometimes!
The graphics is a letdown. Too much white and styled uninspiringly, and who signed off the white-on-yellow bug AND black-on-blue clock?
I feel like GMA(3)'s opening animation is a bit more dynamic than the main show’s too:
