That’s what I meant - ABC using her as a freelancer to fill in.

Judging by her LinkedIn, she doesn’t stay long at places. She’s at short stints at SBS, SKY and NINE

Freelancer or casual? Plenty of journos out there who do shifts at all the networks to fill holes in the roster.

Syan Vallance presenting in Victoria tonight.

I think this is the first time Syan presents a news bulletin on the ABC.

First time it seems. She comes across very good. Good get from 7.

I’d imagine she will become the third in line. I’m no fan of Tran anchoring.

Most likely since there isn’t anyone else these days - they’ve lost Mary, Paul, and Bridget - is Suzie Reins still at the ABC?

Margaret Paul is another reporter who have filled in on News Breakfast - could even use her, and possibly Stephanie Ferrier or Emma Rebellato if needed.

Suzie is great. We need more Suzie!

Should be the third in line, though Syan is better than Tran so I guess that’s still a plus.

Unsure if it has been reported here - Weekend Tasmanian news anchor Alexandra Alvaro has moved to Melbourne.

So far I have seen Jano Gibson, Alison Costelloe and Lucy Shannon do the weekend news recently. It will be interesting to see if they appoint a weekend anchor or just share it around.

ABC have been doing dual sharing roles in SA & NSW for weekends.

I agree with the comments about Syan Vallance. She comes across as quietly confident, but more importantly she knows how to ENGAGE the viewer. You can be taught the nuts and bolts about how to present, but you need a vibrant personality to enhance your delivery and Syan has it. Apparently she comes from a commercial background, so made the mistake of running marginally out of time on her first news reading … she has learnt the hard way that the ABC is a stickler for timing and she did not make the same mistake the following night!

I also agree that Danny Tran doesn’t appear confident, and his delivery unfortunately is rather wooden. Hopefully Syan can become a regular newsreader … she will give Tamara a run for her money! Thank god we have unearthed someone who can do the job properly … as a Victorian I bemoan the parade of very ordinary news presenters recently. It also explains to a certain extent why News Breakfast (Melbourne produced) also struggles with their presenters.
