ABC News Content and Appearance

Is NSW the only state where the newsreader introduces themselves before the headlines? I prefer the NSW setup, but then again I suppose I’m used to it.

Strange that they didn’t open with Matt then throw to the Perth studio from there.

Yet another benefit of near-identical sets using the same design language: you can present from a different city and no normal viewer will notice.

Seven, take notes

Medlen outlined at the beginning of the bulletin that it was coming out of Perth and the reason for that.

No Victoria also introduces the presenter before the headlines

Negative.

Weather presenter Jenny Woodward also unable to present due to being flooded in around her suburb.

Introduction is after the headlines in Victoria.

Really? Get your facts straight.

For some reason, even after the ABC’s capital city HQs outside Sydney made ongoing upgrades with their news sets, they still kept the “(news presenter) with ABC News” intro AFTER the headlines — that, apart from the new set design template used for all of these.

It’s only Sydney who deviated the intro since the set refresh, but surprisingly the rest of them didn’t.

Another excellent looking set. Well done to the ABC for recognising that small markets deserve something as high quality as this.

It’s really a shame how little these sets are actually used. Would be good for more shows like 7:30 and News Breakfast do to ‘tours’ around the country and broadcast from various different cities like the BBC evening news recently did from Cardiff.

As far as the NSW opener is concerned, it’s a mess like much of their local output. As I’ve noted before, they’re still using the old 2017 grey semi transparent box title card along with the 2021 updated one. The less said about the lighting and camera angles on the NSW set the better too. The only edge the NSW set has is the display on the desk. Would have been good for all markets to get an off centre display like that.

The guy who claimed not watching a specific news service, and gets triggered when regional newsrooms are closed on Good Friday and the year-end season, doesn’t know what he’s watching.

(Not mocking him or anything, but that how I observed him.)

This only came one day after the new ABC News studio opened in Hobart.

Well, it was fortunate Telstra didn’t eff up on relaunched set night. That would’ve gone nuts in Hobart if the outage went forward by a day.
