Brilliant.

Sounds like the ABC should’ve gone to specsavers before adding their serifs in  if a glasses company is using the poor font choice for marketing.

I’ve been lurking for years but felt compelled to comment on the new ABC graphics, which I find problematic. While many fair critiques have been raised, I wanted to add a point that I haven’t seen discussed yet.

One major issue is the inconsistent execution of the pill-shaped (Lissajous edge) graphics on TV. This design is featured prominently and consistently on the news.abc.net.au website, where it works quite well.

However, on the ABC News channel, they seem to be using rounded edges in a way that feels incomplete. In many instances, they should be using the full pill shapes for consistency. For example, the ABC News logo in the bottom right corner of the screen should match the pill shape used on the website, but instead, it appears with a different curvature, creating a disjointed look.

Similarly, they use that awkward arrow design (also based on the Lissajous shape) on TV, which isn’t consistent with the website’s style. The result is a lack of cohesion between the TV and online graphics.

The Age reports union representatives meeting management around plans to relocate ABC Sydney radio staff. All Sydney radio shows are expected to move to the new facility. There are also concerns in luring guests to the building 27km west of Sydney.

No doubt there are concerns especially with getting the heavy hitters into the studio - 2GB will no doubt be happy since they are closer to the CBD than ABC are going to be now.

Hopefully they bin the current NSW set after the move.

This is such an incredible waste of taxpayer money. How ridiculous.

They’re keeping their current setup though right? Guests could come into the now-empty/backup studios and join the show if it’s a problem?

Just moving for moving’s sake. Waste of time and money, for how much PR gain? (probably very little)

Would need someone to possibly operate the studio, unless they can remotely operate the space from Paramatta.

Especially since the move is apparently about making the ABC less Sydney Centric, when IMO, they’ve just moved a whole bunch of stuff even further into Sydney.

Seeing the News Channel is still based their, surely it wouldn’t be too hard?

NC is already run with stretched staff - plus one of the NC shifts will also be coming from Paramatta, which would probably be either the mornings or afternoons shifts (both alternate between the NC and NSW studios). Means there is going to be less staff there in the mornings (either doing the morning shift, or preparing for the afternoon shift).

But this was News Corp was whinging about. Move them to the suburbs so they can move away from the inner city lefties. Now people whinge about being a waste of money.

It’s just ridiculous. Normally locations would be determined by the nature of the work and where it is convenient for the operations. You’d think a large news operation would want to be in the main city rather than an outpost.

Or if they wanted to move people away from the inner city, MAYBE, they could move stuff to one of the other 7 Capital Cities, or even one of the 50+ regional stations and outposts they have.

Would’ve saved costs on not having to build new facilities.

Creating jobs. lol  :man_shrugging:

They wouldn’t be creating any new jobs - they are just moving some staff 20km down the road.

Yeah, but someone has to fit out the studio.

They would get an external contractor to do it like they have done with the news sets - would be using people already hired by the company.

Stimulating the economy!

This is like if ABC Melbourne moved to Werribee. Completely nuts.
