ABC News Content and Appearance

Agree, I know it sounds a bit heartless, but some deaths in Qld is largely irrelevant to other areas, and shouldn’t be leading local news 2000kms away.
Guaranteed if it was reversed, Brisbane would not be leading the bulletin with a fire in Adelaide.

This is the key thing. The ABC don’t treat all states equally. I reckon if it happened in Victoria it would have been largely ignored too. NSW and QLD stuff seem to count for twice as much as far as the ABC is concerned.

You’d hope that if they did have regional news bulletins they wouldn’t eventually centralise production and downscale local news stories. STQ haven’t centralised or downscaled local news stories like WIN have. Seven CBN and AMB have both centralised production, but haven’t downscaled local news stories. Just a shame we’re not in the 1990’s-2010’s when WIN News and Prime News was presented in the state it covered and the regions that WIN News covered had 3-4 reporters and camera operators.

Satellite viewers mostly, yes. But Foxtel viewers with an IQ4 or IQ5 can set 102 to either the national ABC feed in AEST or their local ABC FTA service if their FTA aerial is connected to their Foxtel IQ box.

Looks like ACT is getting the NSW 7pm bulletin tonight as Juanita Phillips introduced the bulletin as “This is ABC News in NSW and the ACT”.

Some problems before the start of the news in Hobart tonight. This was on screen with a tone for about 30 seconds then it jumped into the first news story

You’ll find Master Sync is the host of ABC news hobart, looks normal to me.

He/she might need to go back to being Junior Sync if they keep making these kind of errors

Didn’t realise they had bulletins this late at night! Always thought they just ran repeats of that days specialist programs after midnight.

Flying back from Brisbane over the weekend, and I notice the Qantas bulletin uses a weird angle. Like instead of the usual newsroom background it points upwards so you see less of the newsroom and more of the fake roof. It’s very strange.

I like how they do these weather shots, rare, generally only with a met reporter.

Well metro reporters would be the only ones in the studio?

Often weather is done from Melbourne which obviously limits this shot option. Really like it too.

Sorry I was referring to ‘met’ as in meteorology reporters.

Ah ok :+1: we call it “the BoM” over here. Yeah it’s good they get the real experts in to do these explanations. Adds credence to the story and its not just regurgitated media release.

They’re both different things. A weather presenter who reads copy, and a meteorologist who presents.
