They have done a good job.
The newsroom looks really good and the lighting is infinitely better than in the studio. They should do all daytime bulletins there.
In the year when the News Channel will mark its 10th anniversary, the bushfire coverage has really highlighted how its existence has greatly enhanced ABC TV’s ability to cover major news events. From being able to better utilize senior reporters like Hamish McDonald and Mary Gearin to the main channel having the ability to air rolling/extended coverage during the weekend, the News Channel has become a valuable asset for the ABC
Any chances they broadcast the channel in MPEG4 HD?
Doubt it.
Hang on a minute…is it just me or are those caps in native HD?!
If so, I wonder if the 7pm NSW bulletin (which I know, is to be discussed in the ABC News Content & Appearance thread) has also finally switched over to 1080i!
I assume there has been a lot of work happening around the country over the last few months (how each state bulletin was presented from another state for a little while), the new Victoria set and supposedly a new ABC News set, so I wouldn’t be surprised if ABC decide to flick a HD switch for all states and release these two new sets at once.
If it’s true that ABC News are going to decide to flick the switch to HD in all markets at once (I still think NSW should’ve went HD when the current set was launched, but anyway…), then I hope they’ll be be smart enough to promote or at least make an on-air mention of their upgrades to HD.
“Australia’s most trusted news source…now in crystal clear high definition” - now wouldn’t that sound just fantastic in a promo for ABC News?!
Are you guys saying that ABC News (7pm state based editions) are not in HD on ABC HD in any states?
ABC News Channel I know is not in HD - but does ABC have the bandwidth to launch it in HD? Or would they not make ABC Comedy / Kids HD first?
I feel all channels should be in HD now even if not carried on FTA in HD. They should be produced in HD for Foxtel, Fetch, ABC iview and YouTube etc.
The temp national ABC News Channel set has a very local / regional feel to me. Not great for the national broadcaster. But it is temp and is ABC
Really hoping for something spectacular for the 10 year new set launch on news channel.
the NSW set looks great - especially in HD. But wow, they still can’t get the lighting right can they. It looks so flat and washed out. No colours pop and the blacks Are too light, skin tones are wrong. It is crisp and sharp in HD but the colours and lighting look so bad. Can no one at ABC see this?
ABC News Mornings and at Noon, probably switched out from a national control room for TX.
I think Victoria is the only state broadcasting in native HD
A look of the Temporary Setup from the Goods Line. You can’t see much but you can see the Cameras and the Lighting Setup inside.
Hope the new news set incorporate some sort of live element (ie newsroom or the atrium), it is a bare necessity for a news channel set IMO.
What is with this whole standing thing on the NSW set, I honestly can’t stand it.
At least bring some stools or chairs if you’re going to do an interview. The desk just seems too large to have no one sitting.
it’s a very European thing
It’s really designed for the 7pm news, so not many interviews at all usually.
