###Scott & Bailey - Season 5

From Friday 22 July at 9:30pm

Suranne Jones and Lesley Sharp return as Rachel Bailey and Janet Scott in this drama series exploring the personal and professional lives of two Manchester detectives. This time around Janet and Rachel investigate the sinister world of the Darknet, a place that offers complete anonymity to its users.

A ruthless game is being played – one man challenges another to murder, leaving a chalk mark at the scene as proof. The images are loaded to a website and the baton is passed to the next killer. As more chalk marks are left, identifying more victims, will Janet and Rachel be able to stop these vicious killers before it’s too late?

When the body of teenager Will Hudson is found in a park, Rachel (Jones) knows that his death could have been prevented. With information about the ‘Taking Out the Trash’ website in the public domain, monitoring potential targets has been severely compromised. As Jenna (Nisa Cole) is placed under police protection, Syndicate 9 is no closer to pinning anything on Steve Dench (Richard Riddell) or Kenny Medford (Antony Flanagan).

Neither could have killed Hudson, but this does not rule them out of the other murders. Rachel believes that the person who nominates the victim is the one with the connection, but until those links can be made, she is forced to release Kenny on bail.

When Rachel receives an email containing video footage of Hudson’s murder, it becomes clear that the rules of the game have changed and her own safety is in question. The discovery that Kenny is AWOL from the Royal Artillery has catastrophic consequences that leave her boss Dodson (Pippa Haywood) questioning Rachel’s actions. As a police officer, Janet (Sharp) is powerless to protect her daughter Taisie (Harriet Waters), but she knows that she needs to stop the madness.

The Katering Show - Season 2

From Wednesday 3 August at 9:10pm

Food intolerant Kate McCartney and her intolerable smug foodie co-host Kate McLennan return – this time to ABC TV – with series 2 of The Katering Show.

In series two, McCartney and McLennan take a Sassy Swipe™ at the over-hyped food trend of Ramen; they take the term “Yummy Mummy” way too literally; they sample a tablet that counteracts lactose intolerance in an episode dubiously cleverly titled It Gets Feta; they subject themselves and a special guest to the latest weight loss torture regimes of Paleo, Raw Food and The 5:2 Diet; and they dedicate an episode to their culinary hero and spirit bosom, Maggie Beer, where they peddle their own noxious version of verjuice.

But The Kates are aiming to give back too; to use their position as attractive celebrity chefs and trained actors to change the world. First, they’ll use their no talent to address the important issue of marriage equality. McLennan will then check her white privilege by generously inviting The Daily Show’s Ronny Chieng into the kitchen in an episode that highlights both McLennan’s sunny bigotry and her lack of star power.

And finally The Kates will solve climate change - and the cracks in their relationship - by cooking with kitchen scraps from the series in their celebratory End of Days farewell.

Of course, the entire flirty little series is peppered with references to The Kates’ crumbling personal situations; including, but not limited to, McCartney’s rat piss soaked rental property and McLennan’s endless bouts of ‘in-knicker’ infections.

###You Can’t Ask That

From Wednesday 3 August at 9:20pm

Was Season 1 of The Katering Show screened on television or just online?

ABC only ever reported it being shown on i-view, and the release says “this time to ABC TV”.

Cool. Thanks.

I heard that they had overseas interest and one problem was the first series had episodes of varying lengths. That’s probably why they did a proper series this time, having overseas sales in mind

Specifically the tiny village of Carsely in the Cotswolds, which ticks all the boxes: peaceful, stress-free and easy. Like all the best laid plans, it turns out to be anything but when murders occur in the village, its amateur sleuth Agatha who solves the crimes, often in a very unorthodox way.

###Man Up

One bloke’s mission to break the silence. In Australia, men are traditionally seen as strong, stoic and tough as nails. They’re the alpha males of the world. They laugh in the face of fear. They excel at everything. And when life gets them down, they drink a cup of concrete and harden the fuck up. Or so the saying goes. But hardening up doesn’t seem to be working out too well for our blokes. Research shows Aussie men are lonelier and more disconnected than ever. Common mental health problems like depression and anxiety go untreated. And suicide is the leading cause of death for men aged 15-44 years. So why are men killing themselves? And why isn’t anyone talking about it?

###Howard on Menzies: Building Modern Australia

Today, in a climate where Prime Ministers struggle to survive 18 months rather than 18 years, it’s hard to imagine one leader could survive at the top long enough to personally oversee the transformation of the country. Howard contends we will likely never see such leadership again. This is history told from the inside, from one master of the political game about another.

###Ice Wars

Even her husband was a bit bewildered!

This got her thinking. What is different about mother/son and father/daughter relationships? How does parenting a child of the opposite sex change the way you see the world? While Jane awaits the birth of the first boy-child to be born into the Caro family in a generation; she explores these ideas with a group of fathers and daughters, mothers and sons, who invite her into their homes to share the journey of their relationships.
