ABC Local Radio

Yep, that was just bizarre and for people who might still be half asleep it was quite terrifying!

Is 630 still on the air from a backup tower? Or is it just the FM repeaters filling the gap? Can anyone in NQ confirm this?

I tried it this evening here in Brisbane and Newsradio from Sydney was clearly dominant airing the Saints v Swans game, but I thought I could hear the Cowboys game in the background. So maybe it is still on the air at lower power from a backup site?

I can pick up the Cowboys game here with radio aligned towards NQ.

Perhaps it is at the same power but the small er antenna config

Correct, backup tower. Mentioned in FAQs on website that signal should be enough for reception in times of emergency.

What do I need to do?

  1. This Wednesday 19th August:

  2. Take a photo of yourself with the image. Download and print a copy of the image to use here or grab a Sharpie and write it on some paper.

  3. Post it to social media.

  4. In your post remember to include the hashtags: #OurCommunities #OurStories #SaveOur745

    • Twitter: Tag The Managing Director of ABC David Anderson “@davidnanderson_”, Ita Buttrose (@ItaButtrose) and Gaven Morris (@gavmorris)
    • Facebook: Tag the ABC “@ABC Australia”
    • And finally – don’t forget to tag the MEAA with either @withMEAA (twitter) or @MEAA (facebook)

They posted this brief video of the responses from around Australia.

Why aren’t they using the Australian name Texta?, instead of pushing an US brand.

Those are two different brands

Really? I know. My point was the ABC not using what became a generic term in Australia.

It’s not the ABC it’s the MEAA and Sharpie is so common and well known and also who cares?
