ABC Local Radio

Thanks @TV-Expert, so it’s spread further. Newcastle should have a dedicated program and likewise the other stations.

ABC Illawarra still have a local morning program with Nick Rheinberger from 8.30am. And although in NSW but runs on the SA network - Broken Hill still has their local Mornings hour at 10am as well.

As from today on ABC Radio Sydney, Afternoons with James Valentine now finishes at 3:30pm, with Drive presented by Richard Glover now airing from 3:30 to 6:30pm.

The 3:30pm start-time for Drive has been in place in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide & Canberra since January.

Different cities seem to have a different take on that start time. In Brisbane it’s soft changeover with a song in between both programs.

In Sydney and Melbourne it is a switch from one program to the next with 2 minute news break in between.

In Adelaide however - 3.30pm to 4pm is both Afternoons host Sonya Feldhof and Drive host Jules Schiller having a chinwag and talking calls and texts on topics together for that half-hour, before Jules begins solo at 4pm.

Why did it take until now?

@glen2006 highlights interesting observation of the Adel handover, they also air the last half of the country hour into Adel, good way to share content.

I can only hope the commodities prices, usually buried at the back of the show before the 1pm news are over with before Adel takes the program otherwise surely many would flick to AA instead.

ABC Radio will broadcast this year’s International Women’s Day debate, The F Word, in most states tomorrow morning (March 6) then in Victoria and ACT on Sunday, March 8.
More info
It will then be aired on ABC Comedy on Sunday, March 8 at 11.15pm.

ABC Brisbane producer Tom Greenard is dead:

‘Natural causes’ the reason given in the staff email above.

That could be anything from heart failure, aneurysm to suicide. What was it?

Courier Mail article here:

As a result of this - the New South Wales evening program with Sarah McDonald has been heard in Queensland the past two nights. And the Gold Coast mornings program with Matt Webber has also been heard in Brisbane in place of the regular show with Rebeecca Levingston which he currently worked on.

Just heard on ABC Radio Sydney that on Monday morning they are broadcasting from a new Parramatta office. Anyone know about this, location? And is it a studio or just an office?

Last time I heard, the ABC has a bureau in Parramatta to cover news from Western Sydney region.

Karen Tighe was absent from Grandstand last weekend because she had an viral infection in her brain. This from her husband and former colleague Glenn Mitchell today.

Hope Karen get well soon.

Google Maps is telling me ABC Parramatta is at 8 Victoria Rd, which would be this building:

That building is the Parramatta Information & Cultural Exchange (aka I.C.E.) building. Website

They have studio facilities in there.

Looks like it’s at 2 Horwood Place Parramatta.

Thanks for the link glen2006!

Focus on Sydney 2020

At 10.00am Monday 16 March Cassie McCullagh presents a special edition of ABC Radio Sydney’s Focus program live from the ABC’s new Western Sydney newsroom.

Cassie will talk to representatives from Parramatta, Liverpool, Cumberland and Fairfax councils about how Sydney’s west is managing the enormous growth it has seen over recent years.

It’s the first broadcast from the ABC’s expanded Western Sydney newsroom, which comes on line this week.

In a major upgrade from the previous Parramatta office, the new newsroom is equipped for video and audio news production and editing and has space for 12 staff.

This will include two ABC NEWS Local Communities Reporters, who will focus on finding and telling the stories of Western Sydney’s many diverse communities.

Under a partnership with Western Sydney University journalism students will also be able to do work experience in the newsroom as part of their course work.

Beginning last night and for the next three weeks ABC NEWS will examine the state of the “great Australian dream” in a series of special reports on the Sunday NSW 7pm News.

Sydney 2020 examines the housing market, the pressure on Sydney’s transport networks and whether the grand plans for the west will deliver for the next generation.

As part of the ABC response to COVID-19 - the vast majority of ABC radio stations have stopped having in-studio guests to practice social distance. Many guests have been either on phone, Skype or via Tieline app - aside from other ABC staffers.

Could some of the NRL broadcasts have just one caller due to social distancing? Like for example just Andrew Moore or Richard Svenson in NSW, or Quentin Hull in Brusbane?

I dare say that will be all via tieline watching the telecast. Roy and HG style.
