Jeez the local drama output is just Crime, not to mention the news documentaries and factual series in the same vein. It’s becoming the Crime Broadcasting Corporation.

Thank god at least there is some interesting variety in the comedy slate, though am I wrong in seeing no new comedies, just returning shows? Apart from Help Me! which is still a dark crime comedy.

Is there any appetite for dramedies anymore? Shows that used to be well-loved like Offspring, Please Like Me, Secret Life of us, Packed to the Rafters. I guess Dog Park and Return to Paradise has similar feels. I just wished there were just more interesting commissions instead of non-stop crime.

Because you just know that they will still have a tonne of international crime shows they will broadcast. It’s going to be crime after 8:15 on Fridays, all primetime on Saturdays and after 8:30 on Sundays isn’t it? Sigh.

Lot of filler, not much killer. The exact opposite of what Marks and Williams said they’d do. Australia is one of the most urbanised countires on earth, yet they keep pushing regional focused dramas and programming. Nothing about the stories and complexity of life in our cities. Honestly, the less said the better about this line-up.

Extremely underwhelming.

No reason for anyone under 50 or over 12 to watch.

Between 12 & 50 is not their demographic

Great line-up for 2027.

Looking forward to seeing a few of the dramas and of course my favourite Return to Paradise.

Another exciting announcement in Fisk and the return of Old People’s Homes.

Good job team in keeping FTA Australian content going!

Lots of local content are good but the ABC needs more variety in the drama genre.

Not mentioned in the news section is that the ABC will have extensive local coverage of NSW state election, to be held on March 13, 2027.

ABC managing director Hugh Marks will appear on today’s Melbourne mornings show, talking to host Rafael Epstein about the broadcaster’s 2027 line up.

Interesting to note that there was no mention of Antiques Roadshow Australia.

Hopefully an announcement is coming later on or perhaps it’s not going to the ABC at all.

I feel like the Thursday night slot would be perfect for this. It’s lifestyle and goes to different regional areas/country estates. Perfect for after Back Roads at 8:30pm.

Just listened to Hugh Marks interview with Raf. He says they are prioritising a regular national conversation show (a la Q&A) that airs regularly. They just need to find the right format.

Also says there is hopefully more non-crime drama next year that has not been announced. He says he wants a bit more relationship drama, multi-generational drama. I just wished they were brave enough to hold half the crime slate for 2028 instead of flooding the schedule with one crime show after another.

If the programs are already in production or completed, it would be risky to leave them on the shelf for over a year. Definitely agree about needing programs that are not crime related.
