AACTA Awards

Glad that Tom Gleeson has been chosen as host for the television section of the awards. Hoping he will be entertaining. As for Rove and Susie Youssef as hosts for the movie section, well, i dont know. Hope they can bounce off each other and host well enough.

I guess that the telecast on Wednesday will also be split into 2? Rather than combine the tv and film awards throughout?

Network 10 Brings Home Four AACTA Awards.

Have You Been Paying Attention?, MasterChef Australia, The Living Room And Gogglebox Australia Celebrate Wins.

In an exciting result for Network 10, Have You Been Paying Attention? , MasterChef Australia , The Living Room and Gogglebox Australia have all won awards in their categories at this year’s Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards, held at The Star, Sydney.

MasterChef Australia took out the win for Best Reality Program.

MasterChef Australia judge, Melissa Leong, said: “We are blown away by the reception we’ve been given as the new guard. With this year has come an avalanche of the unexpected, which makes us even more grateful for how warmly the MasterChef Australia audience has welcomed us into their homes. We feel most fortunate to continue to celebrate great food, people and stories on this most magical of shows”.

Australia’s premiere cooking show returned to our screens this year for an incredible 12th season, with a trio of newly acclaimed judges, Jock Zonfrillo, Andy Allen and Melissa Leong at the helm. The highly-anticipated MasterChef Australia: Back To Win also returned with 24 talented and passionate former contestants taking to the MasterChef kitchen for the biggest opportunity of their lives – to claim the trophy that eluded them once before.

The Living Room won Best Lifestyle Program.

The Living Room host Miguel Maestre said: “We are so thrilled to have won this AACTA Award! We’ve had such a fantastic year getting out of our comfort zone and being able to meet and help so many Australians throughout such a hard year.

“We’ve been so inspired by Australia’s resilience and generosity, and we are honoured to be taking this award home”.

The Living Room returned to our screens earlier this year with a fresh-new look and a brand-new home, out in the real world. Amanda, Chris, Barry and Miguel stepped in to help everyday Australians who could benefit from a little TLC, with genuine warmth and a lot of laughs along the way. In what was an extremely challenging year, it’s no wonder The Living Room resonated with so many Australians.

A show that has a failsafe cure for Mondayitis, Have You Been Paying Attention? won Best Entertainment Program and Gogglebox Australia won Best Factual Entertainment Program.

The AACTA Awards are held in recognition and celebration of Australia’s highest achievements in film and television.

Network 10 received 12 nominations across their 2020 programming line-up including Australian Survivor: All Stars , The Amazing Race Australia , The Project , The Secret She Keeps , Drunk History Australia , Lindy Chamberlain: The True Story, Ambulance Australia and I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! Australia.

It won Best Documentary or Factual Program for Murder in the Outback: The Falconio and Lees Mystery.

Looks like Nine missed out too.

Tim Minchin and UPRIGHT win at the 2020 AACTA Awards Presented by FOXTEL

FOXTEL congratulates Tim Minchin and landmark comedy series UPRIGHT for taking out the key comedy categories at last night’s 2020 AACTA Awards Presented by Foxtel.

The globally acclaimed road trip adventure, currently available to watch On Demand on FOXTEL, was awarded Best Comedy Series, while Tim Minchin – who co-wrote, starred in and composed the music for the series – won Best Comedy Performer for his role as down-and-out musician, Lucky Flynn.

Tim Minchin said: “Helping to create Upright was one of the most satisfying experiences of my working life, and it has been so heart-warming to watch audiences around the world respond to it with such passion. And winning an AACTA Award is a massive cherry on the cake. A surprisingly heavy, gold cherry.”

Brian Walsh, Foxtel Executive Director of Television, said: “I would like to congratulate Tim and all the cast and creatives from Upright on these well-deserved wins. We are so honoured to have worked with this infinitely talented team and proud to have commissioned this landmark comedy that explores the universal themes of family and unlikely friendships through the lens of two flawed souls thrown together by fate.

“Upright is such a unique Australian narrative, and we’re delighted to see it continue to resonate with audiences both locally and around the world. Upright joins an impressive slate of award-winning Australian series produced for Foxtel over the past 25 years, with more to come in 2021 including the upcoming drama The End and newly announced series The Twelve.”

Produced by Lingo Pictures, UPRIGHT is a sharp-tongued and touching half-hour comedy. When family outcast Lucky Flynn (Minchin) learns that his mother (Heather Mitchell) is dying, he decides to drive to the other side of Australia to see her, packing nothing but an upright piano for the journey. But his plans are soon turned upside down when he meets the runaway teenager Meg (Milly Alcock), who’s dealing with some family demons of her own. Together they forge an unlikely friendship, as they embark on a road- trip adventure across the Nullarbor Plains in a race against time.

Last night’s 2020 AACTA Awards ceremony, held at The Star in Sydney, saw Tim Minchin perform Carry You , an original featured in the final episode of UPRIGHT. He was joined at the star-studded event by co-stars Milly Alcock, who was also nominated for Best Comedy Performer, and Heather Mitchell.

FOXTEL will broadcast the 2020 AACTA Awards Ceremony this Sunday, December 6 at 7.30pm on Foxtel Arts.

ABC’s Stateless dominates AACTA Awards

ABC drama Stateless has dominated this year’s AACTA Awards by scoring 13 of the nation’s top screen prizes, leading the way for the public broadcaster’s wins for best television miniseries, drama, documentary, comedy entertainment and children’s programs.

The powerful six-part series, produced by Matchbox Pictures and Dirty Films for the ABC, scooped the pool across multiple AACTA Award television categories, including Best Telefeature or Miniseries, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, Best Direction and all four acting awards for television drama.

The ABC won 19 AACTA Awards in total – more than any other broadcaster – including for Indigenous drama Mystery Road (Best Drama Series), Firestarter – The Story of Bangarra (Best Documentary), Bluey (Best Children’s Program), Shaun Micallef’s Mad As Hell (Best Comedy Entertainment Program), Australia’s Ocean Odyssey: A Journey Down The East Australian Current (Best Cinematography in a Documentary) and Maralinga Tjarutja (Best Direction in Nonfiction Television).

Michael Carrington, ABC Director of Entertainment & Specialist, said Stateless set the standard for outstanding Australian content in a challenging year for the industry. “Stateless didn’t pull any punches in its depiction of life inside an Australian immigration detention centre and I am ecstatic to see such brave and compelling storytelling celebrated on the national stage.

“The ABC is the creative voice of Australia, investing in more homegrown drama than any other broadcaster*. Programs such as Mystery Road, Bluey and Mad As Hell exemplify the wonderful diversity of this country, showcasing Australian faces, stories, humour and landscapes. Congratulations to all our award-winning programs, people and partners for delivering such unashamedly Australian content to audiences every day.”

The award wins come after the release of OzTam ratings figures showing the ABC gained more audience share in 2020 than any other broadcaster – up 1.8% to 18.4% of viewers. The ABC climbed onto the podium as the nation’s No 3 network and channel.

The full list of AACTA Award winners is available here.

*The ABC finances more Australian drama, across ABC TV and ABC iview, than any other TV network, according to the Screen Australia Drama Report 2019-20.

With several articles circulating the last two days regarding the winners, and Tom Gleeson’s hosting style, i do wonder how many will actually tune into the ceremony tonight to see what all the fuss is about…

Odd. The EPG on my telly says that Shane Jacobson will be hosting the awards. You would think that Seven would have updated it to this years hosts, and not have last years host still there.

Shane Jacobson posted on his Instagram this afternoon that he would host tonight’s 90-minute highlights show.

I’m thrilled to be hosting the AACTAs best of the decade: Australia decides tonight on @channel7 at 8:30pm. It’s been a hard year for entertainment but as they say the show must go on! Tune in tonight to see who wins the AACTA audience choice awards #aacta2020

There you go. Thanks for that. But i was looking forward to Tom Gleeson though

According to EPG, AACTA’s Best of the Decade is scheduled to finish at 10.11pm. Given the winner of the final audience voting category (favourite Australian film of the decade) will be revealed before 10pm, that only leaves around 10 minutes for highlights from Monday’s awards ceremony. Just not good enough.

So is this AACTA Best of the Decade special something they’re showing instead of the AACTA Awards? It just looks like a big promo for Seven shows like Home and Away, done in the style of 20 to 1 - which is quite horrid.

So they are not televising the award show now? What a slap in the face for the awards.

Foxtel Arts has a two-hour highlights from the ceremony this Sunday (December 6) at 7.30pm AEDT.

OK. So about two dozen viewers will watch it there. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
