A-League Rights (2026/27 - ??)

What are you talking about?

its a documented fact that when foxtel lost the rights to the premier league, the ratings for the A-league also suffered. that says to me that people were not generally subscribing for the A-League but saw it as an addon.

They either need to be on Kayo where they can be “discovered” by fans flicking around or wherever the EPL ends up for the good of the league. if it means they take less money now for a gain in the long term thats what what needs to be done

It would be great if Paramount kept the A-league rights with its 2 live games on 10Bold on Saturdays and also outbid Nine for Optus Sport.

Paramount could then potentially put the early EPL Saturday evening game on 10, which would be great for Football fans.

Having said that, I’d still be happy if Nine picked up Optus Sport as it will still save me $200 per year for a separate Optus Sport subscription. Even if Nine increased the price of Stan Sport to $30 or $40 per month, on top of a normal Stan subscription, it’d still save me money.

As the A-League Men’s season typically runs from October to May, it will overlap with Nine’s tennis coverage through the whole of January and its NRL broadcasts from March to May. From March to May, the only timeslot available for a FTA telecast of an A-League Men’s game will be Saturday afternoon.

Super rugby is exclusive to Stan from next season.

They can put the A-league on 9Go and still have the tennis on 9, 9Gem all in HD.

It will be an issue for QLD, NT and WA due to time difference, as 9GO! will be used for tennis while the main channel has the 6pm news. That tennis hour will clash with the 7.30pm AEDT A-League match.

There’s always the big sporting channels of 9Life and 9Rush :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, there will be issues over the Australian Open period, but not much elsewhere. The A-League could go to 9Gem in the Super Rugby slot on Saturday nights (although both different periods of the year)

They can put the A-League wherever they want, it’s not like anyone will notice.

All speculation! First they have to get the rights!

It’s not an issue as they have 9Gem they can use.

There are not 3 sports on at the same time on a Saturday evening, only 2.

It’s a global deal around the world. P+ wants global rights as well which will affect TNT Sports in the UK and Sky in NZ

Will it affect countries in which Paramount+ doesn’t operate?

They’ll find a way to stream it

SMH is reporting that ESPN have made an offer for the next package of rights. The APL still wants a FTA presence

Putting it behind a paywall. 10/P will want to retain the rights

Would love to see Seven gain the rights as it has been nearly 23 years since the last A-League/NSL Broadcast with Fox being the Broadcast partner.

As with their AFL and cricket relationship but 7 has these sports to juggle with during the year
